Could YOU live without toilet paper? Meet the women who choose to wipe with a reusable piece..

For most Americans, toilet paper is an absolutely necessary grocery list item, but some women are opting out for both economic and environmental purposes. In a HuffPost Live discussion, bloggers Angela Davis, Kathleen Quiring and Makala Earley explain why they've decided to go paperless, revealing that it's not as messy or unhygienic as it may sound. 'It is definitely possible,' insists Mikala, who says she and her husband stopped using toilet paper about a year ago. 'It is almost seen as a necessity [and] it doesn't have to be, and it's been a lot of fun to learn how to do it this way.'

I found a blog the other day from following a link from another blog that uses something they called “family cloth”.

Basically cut up material like flannel or velour. I think the fact she also was using cloth diapers for her baby and had a set up where she had the bucket and washed them with the diapers is why it worked for her. Her husband still used TP.

I could see trying a few types of material out to see what works best and then buying a bolt of it for emergency situations, but as an everyday thing? No just NO. And I would throw away and not reuse.

My very outdoorsy daughter, who was also camping with us and her husband and kids thought it was hilarious. Her comments was “Well gosh Mom, at least you don’t have to go in the woods.”

Well at least it also meant there likely weren’t too many rodents hanging around.

I have no problem with most snakes.Sometimes they just startle me but I’m not afraid of them.

My thing is some types of spiders. Especially Brown Recluse, hairy and/or jumping ones. They become dead spiders ASAP.

I washed diapers for four babies, and the folded damp facecloths that I had boxed up to clean them up.

Washed the diapers twice a week. had 2 diaper pails and I assure you my washer was spotless after I soaked, double washed and bleached them.

To me it sounds like they have a box of cloth wipes like I used with the babies, only mine were soaking in Dr’ Bonner’s liquid Castile, and it seems like they keep them dry before use. I would assume they have a covered pail to toss them in for washing.

If they live in an abundant water area, there wouldn’t really be a problem, as long as they were cleaning and disinfecting them.

My mil years ago owned a camp and they babied the old septic system. There was a pail by the toilet that caught ALL the toilet paper. NONE was to be flushed. That stinker was emptied and washed out a couple of times a week..
