I have a Savage 110 in .308 that came with a Nikon BDC scope. Sweet package for right around $500. That Accu-Trigger is very crisp.

OMG - I am hurting just thinking about it. We see the balloonists just North of us in the desert all the time. I can see hitting some Cholla but that had to be a miserable spot of bad luck!

Years ago I was talking with a fireman in Dennison, Oh. I told him about a OSK on a groundhog at app. 650 yards with my .25-06. He took me outside and told me to show him something 650 yards away. I looked around and told him the only place I could see 650 yards was straight up. He was testing me.
Thusly, I question the need of something that will kill at 800-1000 yards. One must be very dedicated, skilled, and have the financial and time demands to remain competent.
I strongly suggest an M-14. Ask Chuck Mawhinney.
