Zicam and Cold-eze. I work amongst the public and take zicam and coldeze at the first sign of a cold coming on. I haven’t had a full blown cold in 10 year’s and I swear it is because what I take. Also take zinc, Vitamin C and D3 as supplements.
Try the above and you will be happy;)
On a gardening note: nothing, coldest, windiest, darn month since the 80’s.
Never lost power and was happiest when we had sun during the -10 days so that at least boosted spirits.
Have great plans for the Spring. Hoping I can implement all I want to do. During the holiday I purchased Paperwhites bulbs in a container and they were beautiful.
Waiting for them to die back and dry out- will plant in garden in the Spring.

We have a heavy population of deer this year that come into our yard twice a day.
They are so graceful and frail looking. No squirrels at all this year. Think the Bobcats or Coyotes got to them- poor things. Yes I live in CT and have both!!
At about the same time the deer come, the Robins are here, 100’s of them.
Our 2 year old Westie sits on the bed watching all of them, but when one deer starts to run- chaos!

Lemon and soda was my Mom’s recipe for a cold back in the 50’s and 60’s.
Squeeze the juice of one lemon, add baking soda (enough to fit on a a dime) and stir and drink it down.

I just have to say that honey is superior when it comes to soothing your throat. JMHO

It depends on the city. Some of our city water smells like rotten eggs. It also tastes icky. Not sure why and not sure why it’s not city wide.

What I hate, also is to go into a restaurant and take a sip of water that smells and tastes like bleach.

But I do know about the bleach thing, cause my hubby the biology major is alwasy reminding me of it.

I usually make my own, and use it so fast, I can’t seem to get much of a stock built up.

I ought to but it’s all I can do to take my Ecotrin once a day. I am good to wash my hands a lot & keep my hands away from my face/ mouth.

This month is just a mess. Today, it got up to almost 80 (YAAY!!). Sunday will be 50 something. Just crazy.

I love Paperwhites. And Daffodils. I have to watch it though because one of my pups is a snacker when it comes to flowers. (Or anything she’s not supposed to eat. Little monster. Night before, she climbed up *on* the dining table & got leftovers I’d put together for the possum. Nothing is safe)

With the advent of warm weather, I decided it was high time to do some maintenance around the place. I spent the day flushing the overhead sprinkler system in my hoophouse. The filter was clogged with "stuff". I don't know if it was bacterial growth or sludge from the high pH water we have here, but I spent the better part of the afternoon cleaning the thing and flushing the lines.

The beds are being renewed with fresh manure so they will be ready by the end-of-March planting season.

The garden was watered down, and the orchard received a good drenching too. The stone fruit trees are coming along, and some are even putting out new leaves already. Too bad that it's too soon in the year. We usually get a surprise freeze in March.
We planted two new Brown Turkey Fig trees, and tomato seedlings are sprouting in the house. So far, jalapeno's are the only peppers that are spouting.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, and that the garlic is doing well. I hope everyone who needs rain gets it soon. I am starting to suffer from cabin fever, but not enough to overcome my aversion to the cold.

Just heard on the news that the snain will continue tonight and tomorrow and repeat in 3 day waves over the weekend and next week.

They also issued a warning about walking on sidewalks. Thin sheets of black ice everywhere including the roads. Youngest daughter made it home safe and sound. I'll be watching the news to see if there's any mass parking lots on the interstate in St. Louis or Kansas City.

I just have to say, back when I was driving in this crap, people made sure to get off the middle of the road before abandoning their vehicles. I was glad when front wheel drive became the usual on my commuter vehicles.

Of course the majority of the people in our county have a 4 wheel drive, even though we are considered a poverty area, and they cost a lot for gasoline. Too many back roads and hills. If you don't have one you are stuck when it rains or snows, sleets etc. Also handy for bringing in the deer for the processing.

OK. That’s Ok. I am that way too. My daughter helped me post some once, but I couldn’t remember how to do it, if my life depended on it. I am techno-challenged.

Two methods that have worked for me to keep moose, elk and deer out of the garden-

Have a guy pee around the perimeter of the garden, or have him pee into plastic bottles that you have poked holes in the top near the neck of the bottle (to release the scent), cap the bottles and hang around the borders of the garden. The latter lasts longer. Never!, ever!, use female pee! It really makes them cranky. They will rip up the garden instead. I learned that the hard way.

The other method is to use fishing line instead of (expensive) fencing at 2’and 5’ from the ground, around the whole garden. The deer bump it, get spooked by the “invisible” barrier and move on. The moose have not breached it, though I doubt they would notice. No elk have gone through, yet, either. I lost some hummingbirds to the line last year, though. I thought the idea was insane. It has worked for 4 years now. My husband forgets most of the time to “water” around the garden for me. (grin)

The tips are definitely superior to the stalks.

The 80’s were very much worse than this, but it is a close 2cnd maybe. Yep I have all those supplements on hand. Vit D3 is the only one I take daily. I get plenty of the others from my food, but I do take them at the first whiff of anything like a sore throat etc.

I have heard a lot of people liking Zicam.

Thanks Deb, I would never have thought human urine could also work as a repellent.

We’ve had some big cats, wolves, and bears in the area, but not many. I know we have quite a population of deer, but so far they have never appeared here in the subdivision.

I believe our land north of town has some traffic; we’ve had several people ask if they could hunt there, and we always let them, since hubby hasn’t hunted for years.

Now that is one that I haven’t heard, but I have heard of mixing lemon juice and baking soda to use as a natural tooth whitner.

Well, rightly, I don’t rightly know. I just know how my throat feels after each, and the honey wins hands down. My oldest grand daughter was here for Christmas and I made her some of my soothing tea for her sore throat.

She had never had honey in tea before, and she hates honey by itself. She said it tasted good and helped. She texted me the other night to ask me about how I did it again, because she was getting a new bout.

Before, she always used sugar in tea.

I learned that from a neighbor living in the northern Sierras decades ago when the deer thought my old roses were put there as a salad buffet. Up here in northern Idaho, we get elk and moose to the mix. I was afraid it would not work. Luckily, it has.

Nothing stops the squirrels. We live-trap them and release them in a reserve 5 miles down the road. We used to have feeders for them and the birds. Black bears and grizzlies like, no, love!, black sunflower seeds. No more feeding the critters.

Glad if I helped. (grin)
