Gun Control Groups Want White House 'Public Health' Campaign Against Guns
Breitbart ^ | 02/04/2014 | Awr Hawkins

After failing to get a bill through Congress in 2013, gun control groups are switching gears and asking the White House to declare guns "a public health and safety issue," hoping President Obama will "direct the Department of Health and Human Services to launch a public safety campaign about the dangers of gun ownership, much like the agency did about the dangers of smoking."

Well, they already have the CDC enlisted in the purge. Why not every other agency?

Didn’t CDC’s study refute the various gun control arguments?

Hard to have a public heath campaign when the major governmental public health organization pretty much says there’s no public health issue.

I hope they do establish a campaign around public health and safety in regards to firearms.

Roughly 2.5 million times a year firearms are used defensively and justifiably to thwart violent attacks, rapes, and murders. As a public safety issue few things are more effective than private firearm ownership. Looking at it the other way, when private firearm ownership is restricted or banned, violent crime rates increase and remain high.

So yes, by all means, let's promote public safety in regards to private firearm ownership. But if they're going to be honest (I know, who am I kidding, this is the obama administration) they would have to promote private ownership, not try to dissuade people from owning firearms.

“a congressional study showing the number of privately owned guns increased from 192 million in 1994 to 310 million in 2009. During this same time period, crime drastically decreased.

On February 2nd, Breitbart News covered a DOJ report showing firearm-related homicides fell by 39 percent, and firearm-related violent crime dropped 70 percent from 1993 to 2011.”

I’d say not, but don’t have the proof at hand. They are a politically corrupt organization in my opinion. With their “wife-beater” studies, their “guns in the home” studies, and the multitude of bad/good/bad leap studies (e.g., eggs bad/good/bad, salt bad/bad/good, et al), they can’t be trusted.

I quit trusting them in the 70s when I was stupid enough to take their Swine Flu shot. It physically screwed me up for a decade.

Leave America’s guns alone.

Period.

Under Obamacare you will likely be asked by your doctor if you have guns in your home and this information will be cross tabulated with your medical history. Been treated for depression...federal gun grabbers will be showing up at your door.

I work for the Center for Disease Control.

If the administration forces this fine organization to abandon science and start writing false propaganda, I will quit out of protest.

This is not what I have seen. In fact, I was very proud of the CDC when they bucked the political pressure and released a firearms study in 2012 that went against the administration's wishes.

Didn’t see the study - maybe one of them actually got a conscience, but I still maintain they are politically motivated, and I absolutely do not trust their ‘flu’ program.

How about this as a counter proposal.

Every male attending college with either a Pell Grant or a student loan, will be REQUIRED to take a class with regards to their Selective Service obligations. Course will be optional for women and for males with disabilities. Veterans will be exempt from this requirement. Students who have not completed their course will have their paper delayed till all others have been approved. After two terms (semesters) in college without passing this course, then all grants and loans will be stopped until they are in compliance.

This class will be taught as a 3 hr college elective and the course material will be developed by the US Military. The course will cover the following topics:

- The history of military service in America
- The current selective service requirements and penalties
- How a call up will be conducted
- Basic first aid
- Military branches and their missions
- US Constitutions and the Bill of Rights
- Basic firearm safety

When I attended the University of Wisconsin, 1969-1974, every male student was required to take a 3 credit ROTC course, because it was a land grant college. It might even have been two 3 credit courses, but I do not remember for certain.

We should bring back that requirement. It was an eye opener for me. I ended up becoming an officer, serving a tour, and had a 30 year career as a Department of Defense civilian.
