I remember Douglas Edwards did the CBS news on TV back in the 50s. The show was only 15 minutes at the time. It was followed by 15 minutes of local news.
That is actually plenty of time to give all the news that you need to know. When they went to 30 minutes there was a whole lot of fluff added.
I was really disappointed when they replaced him with Walter Cronkite. I am surprised how good my instincts were way back then. Douglas Edwards was a far better man.

The suits were worried that Edwards (an alcoholic) drank too much and may ruin an unscheduled broadcast.
They also thought Cronkite looked too young but he was seen as steady.

Amazing broadcast, from almost every theater of war (nothing yet on Merrill's marauders), some take you right there -- an practice amphibious beach landing, for example.
Really makes you "see" how much we've lost with 24-hour TV news.
FYI, Admiral Radio was wiped out by the Japanese TV invasion of the 1970s.
The Admiral name can still be seen on washing machines & dryers at Home Depot.
How far the mighty have fallen...
