And the no need to presoak beans can be ‘cooked’ in a thermos by just adding them to a thermos with boiling water, closing it up and waiting a couple or three hours.
Liquor makes the Top 10 List for barter materials. Just sayin’ ...
Six months after the balloon goes up (Air Force slang there) I’m sure a case of Jack could get you damn near anything!
“interesting that the article says unopened Peanut butter will last a long time......can anyone confirm this?....”
Yes, I can. When I began to prepare in 1998, companies didn’t put “best by” or “use by” dates on food products, so I called the companies. I called Peter Pan and their peanut butter doesn’t go bad - the taste may deteriorate some but it’s still good and won’t taste rancid like peanuts by themselves would.
“I predict we will see a new era of people making their own stuff...their own cigs...their own wine...their own liquor...their own bread....etc etc....”
There already is a person like that - JRandomFreeper grows his own tobacco, own wine or beer, and own bread. He heaps dirt on me for not making bread.
I look at them as small emergency energy bars.
“Those of us that can sew on a button, sew up a wound and/or staunch the bleeding, grow our own food and make our own booze will OWN the coming Socialist Utopia Underground. ;)”
That’s me except I don’t make booze.
“Speaking of sewing: if you have to sew up a wound with needle and thread...”
Don’t try to use a regular needle and thread and don’t buy a suture needle and suture thread. Buy a medical stapler and medical staples from Amazon. It’s fast to close a wound and won’t cause your patient horrible pain like sewing would. Also, have Celox to stop the bleeding almost instantly (unless it’s an arterial bleed).

cherry, I can confirm what Marcella said.
We keep peanut butter for years past the "best By" dates with no problems. We buy all size jars when on sale along with the large 6 pound tubs of Peter Pan at the wholesale warehouses for long term storage.
We store them at room temp and they keep for years.
Years ago in the the Marine Corps we ate K-Rat rations well over 20 years old and the little tins of peanut were still edible and not rancid.
Oh, swell, this guy is so fat, I think he would be the food:
Have him climb stairs until he expires from this world, then the neighborhood would have food for quite a while.
Please, all, that is a joke - :o)
I have done so several times (literally dozens of cases of food that will last 30 years). I leave the parts on their form for your "Stake", etc. blank, and they do not mind at all. I go out of my way to be polite and helpful, and they do the same.

Sorry, no time at the moment to make those links.
“cooked in a thermos”
There are now units with super insulation that will cook food. The method is get the food to boiling and put it in this super insulated unit and it will continue to cook the food for a good while - a good deal longer than a regular thermos. I bought one of these units, cooks 6.34 quarts of food.
You won't even make bread. ;)

Read my post #24 again and this time....uh....take a look at the picture.
Yes, I noticed the “Produce” sign and the non-produce product instantly when I saw the picture.
You waited until post 96 to ping me to this????????????
I will remember this slight..........once I finish my latest batch of Kahlua!
I’m still deciding on my “treat” seeds and plants for the garden - in addition to all the regular components!
Even the cigarettes were good
