Putin IS a Soviet. He was head of the KGB; you don't leave the KGB.

When you find yourself appealing to authoritarians and dictators, it's usually a time for introspection.

One of the great things about the NFL is that it’s 100% merit based.

Not according to Tebow supporters. Unfortunately I suspect that regardless of whether Sam is a total bust who gets cut early or a breakout talent who is a starter from day one, it's going to be blamed on or credited to his sexual orientation.

Not according to Tebow supporters.

Unconditional Tebow supporters aren't really football fans. He won a couple of games including a great playoff win against the Steelers, but a third of his yards were on one play and post-season he still had the lowest passing % in the entire league.

Winning one playoff game doesn't mean you're a franchise QB. Hell Trent Dilfer won 11 straight games after coming off the bench, including the Super Bowl and he was STILL cut at the end of the season.

Tebow could have continued in the NFL if he hadn't insisted on being a QB (probably would've made a great TE).

The idea that he was cut because he was a Christian is just ridiculous, and something that's only said by non-NFL fans who've never heard of Kurt Warner.

Tebow has a similar build to Gronk, pre-prison Aaron Hernandez, Witten, and Dallas Clarke. With the way Tebow could run the ball near the goal line, someone could have spent a couple of afternoons teaching him to catch the short pass and you could have a heck of a Tight End.

It was Tebow's choice to not even try it out.

Totally agree.
But maybe he’s not as psyched to play in the NFL at whatever cost as his FR posse wants him to be?
A fine life awaits in media, coaching, and/or ministry.

You should really read this piece from the Baptist Press by Kelly Boggs in Alexandria, Louisiana.

“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” Russian President Valdimir Putin said in his state of the nation address in mid-December, The Washington Times reported.”

“Putin continued, “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”

What path has Obama set for us?

That article is sickeningly stupid.

Anyone who believes a word that comes out of Putin's mouth is a credulous fool.

It looks like Putin might have a Freeper cargo cult in the works here, much like the DUers and lefties talk about how great Castro and Chavez were.

Do you think Putin would put up with a Russian pro athlete being openly gay and marketing himself and his league to children?

Also, maybe you should open up your pocket Constitution and tell me where the President of the United States has constitutional authority to regulate pro athletics and marketing.

I think you would find a lot of tight ends who would say it's not a position you could learn in a couple of afternoons.

But even if he tried Tebow would be competing against men who had played the position for years. You really think he could beat them out for a spot?

I think you would find a lot of tight ends who would say it's not a position you could learn in a couple of afternoons.

I said he could probably learn to catch short passes in a few afternoons. I was somewhat joking, but I don't think that catching passes would be the hardest things to learn. The intensity and mechanics of blocking would probably take more time, but a tight end isn't key on every play in the same way a quarterback is, so there would be a lot of leeway in slowly moving him into an offensive scheme. He wouldn't need to play every down immediately.

But even if he tried Tebow would be competing against men who had played the position for years.

I think he has enough natural ability for it to at least be worth a shot.

And while I'm not comparing him with all pros directly, there are examples of this all of the time. Richard Sherman was a receiver at Stanford and made All Pro corner in his second year in the pros. Witten also was a defensive end at Tennessee until his junior year when they moved him to tight end.

He won't be Tony G overnight of course, but he's got 10x more chance at becoming an effective tight end than a franchise quarterback.
