A senior admiral of the Iranian navy said on Feb. 8 that Tehran is sending two warships near American waters in retaliation for U.S. naval deployments around Iran.
Irans military fleet is approaching the United States maritime borders, and this move has a message, Adm. Afshin Rezayee Haddad told Iranian state media, according to U.S. news reports.
Haddad called the deployment Irans response to Washingtons beefed up naval presence in the Persian Gulf.
Never mind that the U.S. Navy has actually reduced its forces in the Persian Gulf. Today the Navy has just one nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman, in the Gulf along with the amphibious assault ship Boxer. Two years ago the Americans had two carriers near Iran, but budget cuts ended that that practice.
Theyre pretty crappy ships by anybodys standards. Sabalan is a British-built Vosper Mk. V frigate launched in 1969, making her 45 years old today. Displacing just 1,500 tonsaround 15 percent the weight of the U.S. Navys Arleigh Burke-class destroyersSabalan has a crew of around 125 and is armed with four anti-ship missiles and some guns. A far cry from the 100 or so missiles that most American surface warships carry. . .

The new sequel to “300” shows what happened the last time the Persians sent their fleet to hassle the West.
The real danger will be US Navy watch standers falling off the deck laughing.
Iran has test fired a sea-launched ballistic missile, according to classified U.S. intelligence reports, which could be used in a devastating stealth attack against the United States or Israel for which the United States has no known or planned defense.
The reports, which are well known to the White House but have not been disseminated to the appropriate Congressional committees, detailed the test-firing by Iran of a short-range surface-to-surface missile last spring from a barge in the Caspian Sea

The Iranians can just pull up a barge off the east coast and light off an EMP device, since about 1999.
Much like the fabled “Trojan Horse”, it’s not the outside, but what is inside that counts.
They’d have better luck using cruise ships, with food poisoning their weapon of choice.
A nation like Iran would only consider something like this b/c we have a weak sniveling boy in the WH surrounded by advisers of lesser character and stature then himself.
I don’t care what they look like. If they come anywhere near America, blow them out of the water.
All it really needs is one nuke and one Scud capable of elevating it to effective EMP altitude.
Maybe they would like to test their surface to surface missile intercept capability...Fish or cut bait you jagoffs...
Port call will be interesting as well. "Welcome to San Francisco, Achmed. Here are your tickets to the Folsom Street Fair. Say hello to the goat for me."
The article mocks the destroyer for being 45 years old. How old are the B-52s?
I think EMP’s have to be at altitude to do their major damage.
Maybe they’ll deploy dirty bombs or something?
How much altitude?
How much of an incident before we get Martial Law declared?
Old enough to wreak havoc on most targets....not so much the wore out destroyers. B-52 have the substructure to updated at will. Destroyers will eventually face the ire of constant salt water usage!!
Agreed. We need a Themistocles, and we have an Alfred E. Newman.
