Many of the teenagers surveyed said they were suffering from irritability or angriness (40 percent), nervousness or anxiety (36 percent) or depression and sadness (33 percent) because of their stress. Sturgill told USA Today she sometimes skips meals because of high levels of stress.
Our study this year gives us a window in looking at how early these patterns might begin," clinical psychologist Norman Anderson, the APAs CEO told USA Today. "The patterns of stress we see in adults seem to be occurring as early as the adolescent years stress-related behaviors such as lack of sleep, lack of exercise, poor eating habits in response to stress."

Well said!
One part you left off is that so many of them are very emotionally confused because they sleep around.
most of them?
some of them are confused because they are told by society they are supposed to sleep around!
All these symptoms are the results from suppressing fears. Now, what could young Americans have to be fearful of when they contemplate the future? Make a list.
Not getting the latest smart phone or game box.
Get with the program!
My area just had it’s third high school suicide this school year.
Dreadful——and I don’t get it.
.
Overall, the total lack of charm, the total lack of class that is so prevalent today must have a detrimental effect on people, especially those with no other perspective. Everything is so vulgar and cheap today. Back in the good old days things moved slower, society as a whole was just a bit more delicate, people in general appreciated family and togetherness and public decency more than they do today. Today's youth view life as a rat-race to nowhere, and they want to get as much sex and cheap thrills as possible before they are euthanized. What a brave new world we have here...Ugh.
I would bet those numbers correspond to those families that are liberal/progressive non-religious and democrat.
I don't know. I don't think it's all just narcissistic self-absorption as so many are quick to blame. The "college pressure" is real -- and it begins, ridiculously, in 5th and 6th grade -- but still, realistically that's only for a particular segment/demographic. Someone mentioned suppressed fears; I agree, and that can encompass so many things. Has any generation had so little social stability as this one? What I mean is -- financially, war-wise, etc. things have been much worse, but the family and the broader culture as a whole was generally more stable/cohesive. Now....?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but what I hear you saying is that the larger society offered “something”, even if only an ideal, that an individual could aspire to, no matter how bad their own particular situation was....?
Maybe it’s because in Elementary School, they are afraid to do anything to hurt the Kids’ self-esteem, so they never learn how to handle failure.
I think I’d rather see a shrink than go through the Spanish Civil War. A nasty piece of work, and true harbinger for the things to come.
Unfortunately, one suicide in a school tends to trigger others. A boy on my street when I was in high school killed himself - carbon monoxide, car running in the garage. His father had died from a heart attack a couple of years earlier. It was “spun” as an accident.
There’s drug use, there are kids in awful home environments ... that’s always been around. I think one thing that is more novel is kids in multiple sexual relationships. In the 80s, that was more unusual. Promiscuity correlates with depression, and depression with suicide.
So many Americans are cynical and faithless.
I’ll also qualify my statement by saying that an ideal for people to aspire must be wholesome and worthwhile. When you are proud of your country, when you believe that your country offers the opportunity to honor God freely and do His work and spread His word as you live your life, it gives you something to go on. I’m absolutely certain that people whose ideal is a free-sex, gay-sex, godless society feel emptier than the grand canyon when they lay down at night. Which explains why liberals are so hateful.
They THINK they are more stressed. If they are whining now, wait until they get into the real world.
Coming here is a huge release!
I adore you guys!
most of them?
&&&
I did not use that phrase; I said “so many”.
What a brave new world we have here..
