We're supposed to have a new storm [Nor-easter] by morning. We ahve been very VERY lucky that our power has stayed on all winter....hope it stays that way! Stay warm 'n snuggly like me!

Never have I ever understood how anyone can like that kind of weather.

It's a love/hate relationship.....We love the spring, summer and fall but have to endure the winter to truly appreciate them.......

For outdoor enthusiasts (I USED to be) this is the perfect winter. Lots of cold (no thaws or rain) lots of snow for the skiers and snowmobilers and perfect conditions for the ice fishermen...

The only drawback for the ice fishermen here on Lake St. Clair in S.E. Michigan is that they have surface snow and over two feet of ice they have to auger thru before they hit water..That certainly limits the amount of moving around drilling new fishing holes.

And the ski resorts have saved tons of money by not having to run their snow making equipment........

I jumped off a pier into the lake. I don’t think Lake Huron ever gets what I would call warm, or even tolerable.

I know what you are talking about and Lake Michigan is the same. The same applies to Lake Charlevoix where I grew up. That's a deep lake, approx. 180 ft. at it's deepest, and it's always cold even during the heat of the summer.

Quite the opposite of Lake St. Clair here in S.E. Michigan. It's a relatively shallow lake and in the summer months it feels lukewarm.....I don't like it.

Spent Sunday on Saginaw Bay. Put 20.4 miles on the sled, Ice fishing.

So what are you catching?

Here in Macomb County, Lake St. Clair is over two feet of ice but mostly dink perch are being caught........

Just got off the phone with a good friend in Boyne City and he's got a snowstorm going on. I asked him how much snow he's received this year and he said Gaylord has received approx. 218 inches, Petoskey has received approx 183 inches so his house is between the two......This is the most snow they've received since about 1970 since they started keeping records.

He lives out in the country, overlooking a valley and has a feeder out there for the deer. He can't access it any more to fill it due to the snow depth being so deep he can't open his gates to get out there. The snow is at the top of the gates.

I viewed it as a good sign of spring to come!

Glass half full.....I view it as an attempt by the fruitfly to find something warm to hang on to.........

I forgot to mention that my friend also said that the ice fishing on Lake Charlevoix has shut down due to all the snow on the ice and the subsequent depth of the ice itself..well over two feet.

Yes, I read it not too long ago. I got a collection of all his short stories from the library. I have most of the major works that I have read countless times.
I love an Innocent Abroad, Hard Times, Life on the Mississippi etc. I started buying his books in about 6th grade. Never stopped.
Letters to the Earth are brutal but very funny. My favorite was his story about Abner the coal dealer from the recording angel in Heaven. If you haven't read it get hold of it.
Here is a link for a web site that has it. http://www.armageddonbuffet.com/lettertoearth.htm

I Was raised in Bellaire (West of Gaylord) so I can relate to lots of Snow. We always made snow forts out of the Snow banks and toboggan runs down thru the trees in the woods across from our house.made spare cash shoveling snow off roofs.

Catching Walleye on Saginaw Bay.

ummmmmm, ice fishing.

or as it is known by locals, professional drinking

What kind of bait does one use for ice?

I have been fly fishing before and know what to bait the hook with....

Takes too many to ‘fry up a bunch’ though.

I used to love the birds in Home Depot hang out by the bird seed. They made a decision not to migrate coz of the good eats. Chirp!

Thanks. I'm about to retire and you given me an idea for an enjoyable hobby--catching up on 125-year-old Twain stories. I, too, have his short stories, but aside from Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, and perhaps Prince/Pauper long ago, I've missed most of his other novels.
