Law enforcement officials in Texas announced this evening that they found a body believed to be that of a woman who went missing nearly a month ago after returning from a two-year trip around the world.
Leanne Hecht Bearden, 33, was last seen January 17 when she told her in-laws in Garden Ridge near San Antonio that she was going for a walk. She has not been heard from since.
The woman and her husband, Joshua Bearden, were staying with his parents after returning from their travels earlier this month.
City Police Chief Donna O'Conner said just after 1pm Thursday, they received a call from a Garden Ridge homeowner saying that he had found a body in a wooded area near his residence, CNN reported.
Officers who responded to the scene came upon what is now believed to be Leanne Bearden's body.
Police are not disclosing the cause of death pending the results of the autopsy that will be performed on the remains.....

A massive search was conducted after she went missing by both professionals and volunteers covering the area so extensively with helicopters, canine teams, etc that LEO concluded that she was not in the Garden Ridge area.
Then the body shows up a short distance from the home in a neighborhood that searchers understood had already been covered by the family.
Someone has some explaining to do --
Even if the area had already been covered by the family, wouldn’t it have been prudent to check again? A presumably distraught family member may not notice every clue.
Sounds like the poor woman got the Vince Foster treatment. Killed elsewhere and the body was then moved.
One would think so especially since the family had been holding fundraisers and raised over $25,000 to pay for their search effort.
I am curious as to whether it is a LARGE tract of land? It sounds like it is sort of a suburb area. Seems like any homeowners in the near proximity would have also searched their own properties?
have you ever found yourself standing in the bathroom looking for the comb that is in your hand
Something smells here. She goes off BY Herself on a TWO YEAR around the world trip. Then she comes back and goes for a walk and gets killed. My guess is that she and hubby had a big argument and he did her in. This marriage couldn’t have been on solid grounds when she goes on a 2 year jaunt by herself.
More here from a local source:
Leanne Bearden’s body found in Garden Ridge
Given the way many of these turn out, places searched by the family should be the FIRST place searchers look. I'd say the PD has some s'plaining to do too.
The link at post #8 shows where the lot is in relation to the house.
No she and hubby went on a two year trip together.
Many times — but when I bring in the hounds and search teams they usually locate it.
I thought she and her husband went on the trip together.
The article states she and her husband went together for a two year round the world trip. Not saying an argument didn’t occur once they were home but they were together for the trip.
You just made that up, didn't you?
She and her husband were on the trip.
She AND HER HUSBAND went on that two year trip.
She didn’t go by herself.
She did not go on a 2 years trip by herself ... she and yhe husband went together.
From the article at the link:
“The property where the body was found Thursday afternoon is a 2.4-acre lot, Comal County records show. Satellite photos show the property includes a house and is partially wooded.”
According to information given in the link, they went TOGETHER.
or she realized she was in Texas!;-)
Thank you. That helps. The lot where she was found was under 3 acres. I think, as a homeowner, I would have checked my own property, being that close to where she disappeared.
Story from the San Antonio Express
We had an elderly lady with Alzheimer’s go missing just down the street from me this past fall. They organized a massive search with dogs, helicopters with infrared, ATV’s, etc. She was found alive 3 days later 300 feet from her house in the woods caught in a barbed wire fence where she had been the whole time.
According to at least 8 Freepers, who read the article, she went on the trip with her husband. /!
come on people
Go find your comb and leave us alone. :)
You must have hair.
Or that is the back scratcher....
Or smelled the decaying body
im too busy tripping over dead bodies
The Garden Ridge area is quite rural.
I read about her missing but forget what countries she and her husband visited.......but pretty ironic that she travels the world and ends up dead after going for a little walk.
Perhaps suspicious is the word I am looking for rather than ironic.
just in the lower rear area and without a comb how can i brush aside the (klingons) alien hordes
Sarcasm/ maybe not
I realize that you may be combing through these posts in order to respond but if I were you I would just brush them aside.
Where on earth did you get that information?
I’ve read that in several comments.
I’m off to look, the wife said she read it there as we were watching this story on the news.
That might be enough to send most husbands over the edge.
Not quite as bad as two weeks in Orlando with four sisters-in-law and their families...in July.
In this report it states it an apparent suicide.
I don’t really know the rules on posting links and don’t have the time to read up on it so if this is forbotten, please delete it.
For what it’s worth in the commentary section:

“Investigators said a man discovered the body at 12:18 p.m. in a wooded area behind his home. Sources tell Eyewitness News that Bearden was found hanging in a tree.”
Prayers for the family... when I saw this on FNC, something didn’t seem quite right.
I am trying to imagine how you hang yourself from a tree. You would have to climb the tree and then jump. Or find a ladder in the woods. And bring a rope with you and make it the right length.
Not to mention that hanging isn’t usually the choice of women when suiciding.
over the edge or just ran into a death panel
Well, she had a backpack with her. Could the rope have been in there? You are in a wooded area.. so you find an old log to use as a “jump”. Unfortunately, if someone really wants to end their life... they can and will.
