Team USA won against Russia in Olmpics Men's Ice Hockey this morning after regular time had run out, as well as a 5-minute overtime period. A shootout finally determined who won, with T.J. Oshie of the St. Louis Blues (hometown: Everett, WA) scoring the winning goal.
it was live.
Congrats but it’s not the same as 1980 - not even close.
The next game is Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. ET against Slovenia. The game is on NBCSN. Obviously, the appeal of the opponent is lessened but that team just upset Slovakia a few hours ago.
Woo-Hoo!!
They actually showed a men’s game? Was the women not playing or what?
Apparently between the two teams they had reached their secret rainbow quota thus were allowed to proceed, and even to be televised.
As long as we are pacified with our sports and stars we can happly remain a docile subject of a caring Government.
Personally, The people of America deserve humiliation for destroying a once great country by electing the rulers we now must obey.
I think the NHL would become a more major sport if they had the large rinks like Olympic hockey.
Probably not doable since so many of the teams share basketball arenas, but the game is a superior product on the open ice.
Do they still keep score?
Yeah you should put a spoiler alert on the headline and given the score in the first post. I DVR’d the game like so many. It’s more fun if you don’t know how t turns out.
It was a great game. IMO the Russian’s were overall better and miles better than they were in Vancouver. But the US powerplay was deadly, they hung in there and then it was the TJ Oshie show. It was the weirdest shootout I’ve ever seen. That was fun, it would have made a great gold medal game.
Obama to take credit for the victory in 3...2...1...
More reason for the America haters to hate us even more.
I believe in 2016 they stop keeping score and reach perfect equality comrade.
And with both teams loaded with NHL players, who really cares anymore who wins these professional games. I certainly don’t.
There was a time when the Olympics meant the best in amateur athletic competition, then John Thompson took the air out of the ball and the US lost a basketball game. From that game on we had NBA players competing in the Olympics, beating teams by 50 points. It morphed into all the different events, now it’s pros against pros.
You make a very good point. It's the greatest danger of a democracy (or boobocracy as Mencken called it), even one within a republic. It can vote its own destruction.
The old Soviet block basically fielded pro athletes (fully state funded and rewarded) while the US sent amateurs in keeping with the old olympic ethic. I get what you mean, however. The olympics meant more back then, if not for the Cold War implications then for the David vs. Goliath professionals against amateurs match-ups.
So so fun,got a retweet from Bode Miller of all people. We put it on and held onto our seats.Putin was there:)
T.J. Oshie. Played his high school hockey in the REAL “Hockeytown”. Warroad, MN, where the team is still called the Warriors. Well done, young man.
The NHL players who return home for these games have nothing in stake other than a stupid medal. They don't belong there! They're not giving it their all, they have nothing to lose other than the potential of being injured and thus they're just skating.......
The last most significant hockey game ever played was the U.S. amateurs vs. the Russians...........
Allowing the NHL players to dominate the rosters of the olympic teams has totally destroyed a once great game..............
He was from Everett, Washington, but moved to Warroad to play hockey. They also had an amateur team called the Warroad Lakers. My dad knew Billy and Roger Christian, and I got to hold their Gold medal, from the 1960 Olympic championship. Other hockey towns, were Roseau and International Falls. In high school, I played a game in International Falls. They were a powerhouse then, and beat us 6 to 1. Oshie, Toews, Parise and Zajac, all played at my alma mater, UND.
