This could be like radio free Europe on a grand scale to reach dictator controlled nations.
the Iranian Mullahs will have to rig a giant sheet of tinfoil over the entire country.

"Maybe they can get the democrats to declare that internet access is an entitlement, and instead of obamaphones they will be giving the poor their very own sattelite modems."
Along with a great big red "vote Rat" button for the coming all electronic voting systems controlled from central government servers.

It is already happening.
High speed internet is being offered to families of kids on free lunch programs for $10 a month guaranteed for 2 years, YOU and I are subsidizing that on our internet bills.

Same here. I called them up last week and re-upped. I went the internet route only because I no longer have a Sirius radio. Now that they have an android app I don’t need a radio. I just plug my phone into the aux jack in my truck and I have satellite radio again. For $15.00 a month it’s a great deal.

Sounds like a scam to me - just going to take the donations and run.
Iridium already tried this 20 years ago, and went bankrupt. Only when the iridium assets were bought at auction for about $0.01 on the dollar has the company been able to operate the satellite constellation and make a small amount of money, mainly from the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now Iridium is trying to raise the BILLIONS necessary to replace their worn-out satellites.
So if some little start-up, with one of the head guys being an university academic, thinks they can launch hundreds of satellites, operate them on a daily basis, repair/replace them when they break - ALL FOR FREE. My scam radar alarm is sounding.
If it sounds too goo to be true, it usually is...

What an opportunity for spying, hacking and information theft.

Will the Outernet also include the Outerwebs?

“No, users cannot be tracked; but no, users cannot use the Internet via Outernet. Nor can they choose the content being broadcast. This is a one way communcations mode, similar to talk radio using hypertext markup language instead of loudmouthed white men.”
So it’s just enhanced radio/streaming.

This is a one way communcations mode, similar to talk radio using hypertext markup language instead of loudmouthed white men." A one-way broadcast. So, it won't be replacing the internet and probably won't be very popular where folks have full internet access.
