LANCASTER, Ohio - A sanitation worker discovered a dog in a Fairfield County dumpster Friday morning, just as the trash was being crushed and hauled off to a landfill.
The dog was rescued from behind the Rooster's on Memorial Drive in Lancaster.
Rooster's manager Dusti Thompson-Wears said the kitchen staff was opening up for the morning when a sanitation worker rushed in with the small dachshund.

Things like this tick me off. I suppose the person who tossed the dog in the dumpster is the kind who would have no problem aborting a baby or euthanizing the old or infirm.

We have a rescue dachshund. Sweetest little guy. I almost rescued another one last week who was all skin and bones.

And then you discover he was there for a good reason:

Doggy might be a stray that had burrowed in there for protection or food...?

Reading the entire article helps. The local animal rescue unit said the dog was too small to have gotten into the dumpster by itself. So someone had to have placed it in there.

Might’ve been snatched as a “prank” and ditched.
Somebody could be grieving for it.

It would impossible for a dachshund to get into a dumpster.
To: stellaluna
Well I Googled for “dachshund jump” and one person is reporting 2’8”. (But it was a corgi mix.)
Not directly from the ground to the top of the dumpster, no, but maybe if other objects were positioned such that the dachshund could use them like steps, I still think possible.
Though I wouldn’t put it below some mean person to have just dumped (and snatched) the pooch.
