FULL TITLE: The moment woman jogger in headphones is knocked to the floor and handcuffed by cops because she didn't hear when they tried to ticket her for jaywalking

A female jogger out for a run in Austin, Texas, Thursday was arrested, handcuffed and hauled into a police cruiser screaming and in tears for allegedly failing to identify herself.

The entire incident was caught on video recorded by Chris Quintero, a student at University of Texas who was sitting in a cafe across the street and witnessed the woman being taken into custody.

The arrest took place just before 11am outside a fast-food eatery near the intersection of 24th Street and San Antonio Street in Austin.

Austin is liberal.
The cops should be in jail.

A. “The entire incident” was not caught on the video shown in the linked piece.
B. Where are they getting that she was “knocked to the ground?”

(Police haters may now commence with their tirades)

They may have used excessive force, but I am sick and tired of joggers and bicyclists running and ridding through the lights and not paying attention to crosswalk signals.

You know, I didn't catch that at first; you're absolutely right. I'd have paid good $$ to see this happen to a liberal anti-car cyclist.

Police on Thursday arrested Amanda Jo Stephen, 24, and charged her with failure to
identify after police said she refused to cooperate when an officer attempted to stop her
after she was seen disregarding a traffic control device while jogging near the university.

Snip
He said the woman had a direct line of sight to an officer in front of her trying to
stop her. An officer ran beside her and grabbed her after yelling at her to stop
several times, he said.

Stephen used profanity when speaking with officers, leading them to handcuff her,
according to the chief. At that point, she sat down of her own accord, went limp
and refused to provide officers with her name.
End snips

>This was in Austin which is a blue island in a sea of red.<

.
Wish that were true — TX ain’t no longer a sea of red.

TX is slowly turning purple with the influx of liberals from CA, NY and other states seeking employment here. And the large population of the ROP is not helping either.

She mistakenly thought she was a citizen...

Though I have no idea of what transpired verbally between her and the police, the police sure over reacted...

Jeez, I think we all are just glad that the two fluffy donut eaters got home safely, that’s the most important thing.

This wasn’t a “tirade”, was it?

I kinda had the same reaction. Watching the video I surmised she had been treated like that and then arrested for "contempt of cop".

specifically targeting jaywalkers, claiming instead that they were working 'pedestrian enforcement'

Citizen! Papers please!

Normally would side with police against a citizen who does not obey a lawful instruction.

However, it would have been far better police form th bring the cruiser out in front of the building in the open instead of carrying the lady jogger into the alley.

I will defer judgement until all the facts are in.

One point is, why would anyone jog in a crowded area where police are known to ticket jaywalkers?

“The Austin Police Department has denied that the officers seen in the video were specifically targeting jaywalkers, claiming instead that they were working ‘pedestrian enforcement’ to ensure traffic safety. “

Good lord did the Austin PD PIO go to the WJC School of obfuscation????

I guess Austin must be a zero crime area
