LEXINGTON, Miss. - Workers at a Mississippi funeral home say they found a man alive and kicking when they opened a body bag.

Holmes County Coroner Dexter Howard calls it a miracle that 78-year-old Walter Williams is alive.

The coroner was called to Williams' home in Lexington, a community north of Jackson, where family members believed he had died.

Howard says Williams had no pulse and was pronounced dead Wednesday at 9 p.m.

Early Thursday, workers at Porter and Sons Funeral Home were preparing to embalm Williams when he started to kick in the body bag.

long after Poe's 1849 death.

Assuming he wasn't buried alive and lived that long in the box. :)

Good thing he wasn’t an organ transplant donor.

Read somewhere that Poe suffered from catalepsy.

The circle of life is complete.

Reading about catalepsy, I find Robert E. Lee's mother, Anne Carter Lee, suffered from catalepsy and as a result became a victim of . . .

vivisepulture.

This is why the traditional “wake” was once held. My grandfather’s body was placed on the kitchen table and a multi-day party commenced.

One reads of a body sitting up straight, either in a casket or on a table. In three years of Funeral Service, I never saw or heard of that happening.

One thing I did see was some fingers moving, due to cold embalming fluid being injected into a still warm body. Creepy.

And I've heard the 'Death Rattle' a couple of times.

Seeing the body twitch in the casket at a funeral.

I deny ever waking up in a body bag.

Note to FReepers: Darks can only wake up when he's ‘out’ of the body bag.

They should have zippers that can be operated from both outside and inside a body bag, don’t ya think?

They should.
But that does take the fun out of sitting up bag and all then saying, “Hey buddy, got a light?”

True. If they don’t see the light, they are stuck in there.
