Twelve-year-old Louisiana boy catches 114-pound catfish. (Facebook) MONROE, La., March 2 (UPI) -- A 12-year-old boy caught a record 114.1-pound catfish in the Mississippi River in Louisiana.
Lawson Boyte, of Oak Grove, La., was on a family fishing trip on the river when he caught the huge catfish using shad bait, KNOE-TV, Monroe, La., reported.
The fish broke the previous record of 110.19 pounds in 2005.

Heck of a job for a 12-yo. My grandfather hauled in a 112 lb catfish from the Missouri river at Jefferson City in 1898 when he was 12. He was a lifetime fisherman and he always said that it was the hardest fish he ever landed.

I bet he’ll remember that catch all his life.. probably like pulling up a Volkswagon! LOL!

Based on my grandfathers’ description and his rememberance all his life I would bet he’ll be telling his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. That’s a pretty dense fish, definitely heavy. My grandfather said he fought with it several hours and it was as big as he was.

If you go to the article it says he was using shad for bait sounds like catching to me.That is what I was saying. He didn't snag the fish. A lot of states will not give you a record if you snag the fish.

That's probably bigger than he is.
I've caught catfish (Flathead) before, although the ones here aren't like the south. I've caught a couple of big trout and some big red snapper and bluefish on the ocean back in the day.
But this is over 4 times the biggest fish I've caught. I tip my hat to this kid.
