Maine Coon kitten safety isn't usually the first thing we think about before getting a new kitten, but we should! We all know about child-proofing, but what about kitten-proofing? Your kitten can get into all sorts of trouble! Reviewing this Maine Coon Kitten safety page, and following its advice will go a long way toward keeping your kitten safe and healthy. We'll have minimal photos on this page, so you can print it out. Keep it handy and show it to other members of your household. It is amazing the places kittens will go to hide.

Correct, matter of fact we are going to go to an animal shelter today. Thought about boating, but ‘global warming’ (39 degrees at my house this morning) made us think about checking shelters.

We have a big Maine Coon named Jasper. He’s our handsome guy and weighs almost 20 pounds. Our vet calls him a mountain lion.

Our son recently lost his 18 year old cat, he said he was a Norwegian Forest but he looked just like a Maine Coon to me. Anyway, tuxedo, we called him Boris but also Bustipher Jones because when he was in his prime he was quite fat and walked like the character in CATS. He dominated any room he walked into. Other cats worshiped him. Dogs avoided him. Seriously, other cats would sit and gaze at him but knew better than to get too close. He lived for awhile with a large German shepherd and a Mastiff. He was totally the alpha animal. Very sweet with humans. He loved to be groomed. He did get mats. I was making my granddaughter a Christmas stocking one year and used a bit of his fur to help stuff it. Miss him. Great animal.

My farm cat was 3 months and at first preferred to run hide behind the fridge, she must have liked the warm coils. Figured out later when introducing a new cat to confine them to one room initially.

Correction: Handsome.

WILL NOT ATTACK no matter what. Very gentle, loving. When I comb him I hold him by the tail. He doesn’t mind.

Attacks the hell outta the occasional Palmetto Bug we get down here in GA, though. :)

These cats are also notorious climbers. This particular guy did a high-wire act an the bannister in our loft. He fell, smacked his head pretty badly on the floor, and nearly died from the swelling in his brain. I posted a prayer request for him back in 2011. Thanks to that and the excellent care he received, Wilby Love is still with us. Thank you all for your support!

That’s a reminder to me to do something about the mess of cords behind our entertainment center before we get a kitten. I was reading another forum, and a woman made a distraught post about coming home and finding her cat dead from electrocution. He’d been chewing on cords.

Ours is Winslow, 20 lb of white, grey, and black. He is the giant among our 20 lb normal size domestic short hair and 14 lb orange long hair who takes no guff and pushes around Winslow when the giant gets out of line.

I was reading another forum, and a woman made a distraught post about coming home and finding her cat dead from electrocution.

Back when I lived in the United States (Tennessee), a clerk at the Post Office told me she had lost a cat in similar fashion.

Thanks for the tips on how to prevent injury to our precious fur babies. Those Maine Coon cats are beautiful!

Wish I had one.
