Oregon cat that trapped family will undergo therapy

The Oregon cat that attacked a baby and trapped his owners in their bedroom over the weekend won’t be losing one of his nine lives due to his antics, but he will be spending at least one of them undergoing therapy.

Lux, the 22-pound Himalayan house cat that prompted his owners to call 911 after a violent outburst, will be visiting a pet psychologist after he takes a trip to see a veterinarian.

The 4-year-old cat will remain a part of the family, despite his actions on Sunday. According to his owners, Lux has a “history of violence.”

“We're not getting rid of him right now,” said owner Lee Palmer. “He's been part of our family for a long time.”

Palmer’s seven-month-old child received a few scratches on the forehead from the cat after the baby pulled his tail.

“Officers arrived and cautiously opened the door to the residence, where they saw the black and white Himalayan dart into the kitchen, attempting to flee custody. Officers were able to outwit the high-strung Himalayan, who climbed on to the top of the refrigerator, and get a snare around the cat and safely get the cat behind bars in its crate,” according to a Portland Police Bureau press release.

“Officers then told the family that it was safe to come out of the bedroom. The cat remained behind bars in the custody of the family and officers cleared the scene and continued to fight crime elsewhere in the city.”

I got some ‘therapy’ for it. It’s called a .410 PDX1 shell.
It’ll catch him even if he anticipates and tries to jump....

These people are just idiots who have no idea how to care for an animal.

And animals know it.

I wonder if the cat’s tail is dislocated or has a spinal injury of some sort?

A good vet would check that out as well. The cat reacted to a perceived threat to its safety.

Teresa, you do not have a boyfriend. You have a girlfriend.

Obviously the cat has his owners number. Most cats react badly when someone pulls their tail. Kitty needs a home with competent people.

I was thinking along similar lines: either leather gardening glove therapy and a lifetime dose of live-outside-now tough love, or just disappearing the thing.

The baby pulled the tail of a 22-pound cat. It’s a cat, for heaven’s sake. The cat doesn’t need a shrink. The tot needs to not pull the cat’s tail. If the folks are concerned and want to keep the cat, why not declaw it? Or control their child.

The cat NEEDS therapy?

I think the STOOPID owners NEED the therapy!

I take that back the family needs therapy and I think the cat is the owner.

I watched a news video of this last night. First, the baby pulled its tail and the cat reacted like cats do - it scratched the baby. THEN, the boyfriend KICKED the cat. That is what led to the cat's violent behavior.

I think the boyfriend needs the psychologist and the cat needs a new home.

The best therapy for that cat would be a hot lead injection.
