The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Yep. Tomatoes don’t do diddly unless it’s at least 50 degrees at night.

Is this your first T5? They are great I love mine. So much better than the older types.

I found cobra misters at home depot for clearance at 2 bucks. Gonna set them up in the green house with a timer. So excited.

Yes I got shocked at how much plants were last spring ($4 for a tomato plant at Lowes!) and decided to move my process upstream.

If they ever legalize med mary jane in Indiana, I’m gonna be supplementing my SocSec bigtime, LOL.

The cops or a neighbor with an ax to grind see that evil 'grow light', and they may think you're supplementing already. :-)

True, but keeping them on the cool side with a light breeze from a fan will give you nice healthy plants with stocky stems.

The son of a guy I worked with got busted for having a pretty large indoor growing op. He had a clean record so he avoided jail time but it has wrecked his life economically. Years after he’s still making payments on an expensive pickup truck that was seized. Can’t get a decent job, etc.

I got lettuce, parsley, and a few tomatoes started. I started the tomatoes from seed I had saved from last year to see if they would indeed grow.

And they DID!!

Now I’ll just have to wait and see what I get for a crop this summer.

It’s 47 out today, after getting mailed with a winter storm Wed with a high of 20 and 14 inches of snow.

I can’t wait for spring to be here to stay.

People are getting ‘swatted’ for starting vegetable seedlings inside...

Walmart has them for $3.88 ehehehehe. Scrooge that I hear ya--from now on its mostly seeds for me too plus you get so many more in number from seedlings--just the little extra work is involved.

Fresh heirloom seed should ALWAYS germinate...don't be so surprised. :-)

I had been wanting some raised beds for years, but I wanted them really raised, not just a foot or so. I wanted to build something from lumber, but time got away from me. I planted 4 sweet banana peppers, 4 jalapenos, 1 cayenne, a Boxcar Willie tomater, a Legend tomater, with room for more peppers. The video that got me interested in Boxcar Willies left one to free range in a raised bed and it was very productive. I am going to free range these two and see what happens. I have 2 more of each going into the main garden patch this weekend along with some store bought plants.

I turned on a sprinkler for about 45min to water them in. I will run drip line irrigation with a timer shortly. This potting soil really holds water well, so good it scares me. I will only need to run the drippers every other day with it.

Its pretty satisfying saving your own seeds and watching them sprout for next season.

About the same for Walmart. Definitely too much cost for me. I’ll just plant my own for far less cost.

If people would start saving their seed; we could have a nice little FR 'seed swap' every year. It's a GREAT way to supplement your inventory without shelling out 'big bucks'. :-)
