Hello Freepers, I am looking to buy a new office chair and was looking for recommendations/suggestions, and endorsements. Advice about chairs to avoid is welcome too. I don't have any odd requirements to speak of. I just want a chair that swivels, rocks and has some height adjustment. I am about 6'3", and weigh 207 lbs so I'd probably want a "big/tall" version.Obviously I want comfort and good ergonomics. I posted this in the "computer" topic because I figured those of you computer guys/gals that spend copious amounts of time in front of a machine would have unique knowledge. Also, suggestions on good sources for purchase welcome too as out here in the woods the only options are Office Depot, and other chain stores. I'd like to keep the budget around $500 or less.
Thanks in advance for your help
That thing is great..is it real?
I sat in the tempurpedic one and it seemd acceptable. like you, I was concerned about the durability. the adjustable lumbar was nice, i just wondered if it would actually stay in place after a couple months of use
Laz bait?
I am almost the exact same size as you. For me, a firm chair is best. I didn’t like a soft pillowy chair and they weren’t durable. I spent the money to buy a Herman Miller aeron, tall version. It’s expensive, but a quality chair. Plus, after 10 or so years, it’s just as comfortable as the first day. You can find used ones at office store dealers that specialize in used furniture.
Perhaps before your time... an ex-freeper, since passed away and since buried the hatchet, a good guy who designed an office chair he had made and sold for prevention of back fatigue.
Perhaps someone else knows if his wife, also a freeperette, still sells them.
Ah...Thank you.
He doesn't expect it to be approved.
I told ‘em it was “only forty-nine”. I don’t think I’m gonna get away with it.
I might have to check my chair. It was my old man’s that he bought in the mid seventies. The leather on the arms has started to crack, but other than that it is fine!

Humanscale ain’t cheap, but you’ll either pay more now in cash for the quality, or your body will pay more later in pain. SHOP for these used, though; they’re out there. They are called “mesh task chairs” and Humanscale is a top manufacturer.
I have spent several hours in the Humanscale mesh chairs and they are VERY comfortable. The support is excellent, and they BREATH; you NEVER sweat, your pant legs NEVER stick to the back of your legs; the comfort level is the best I’ve experienced in any task chair I’ve ever used for any period of time. The first moment I ever sat in one of these mesh task chairs my immediate impression was, “Wow! This is really comfortable.”; I literally felt the “Ahhhhhh” as my body was able to just relax completely with full support from the chair.
Because the Humanscale line is highly configurable, you will likely need to be face-to-face with a qualified sales person in order to get the setup that will best suit you.
No matter what you end up buying, sit in it first, and sit for at least 15 minutes. Bring a book to read while your body gathers sensory data. If anything gives you a twinge, think “Next!” and move on.
ON CHAIR CONFIGURATION:
I sit 8+ hours daily and I have found that the length of my upper arm exceeds the range of arm rest adjustment on almost every common office chair forcing me to physically remove the arm rests so my elbows can be at a relaxed level. Using a chair with arm rests for an extended period, I tend to set my elbows up on the arm rests, and — since they aren’t low enough — that makes me hunch my shoulders slightly the whole time. This is an excellent recipe for a booming tension headache. If this is a problem point for you, ensure that you get a chair that either has adjustment range to accommodate your upper arms, or has no arm rests at all.
HAPPY HUNTING!
The Embody Chair is really nice but a bit pricey. You get what you pay for.
Ah, a “double-wide.” And people thought that only described trailers.
Look at places that sell lease returns. You could get a $1000 for few hundred.

"Hey, baby, how would you like to sit behind my desk?" (bite lip, give half thumb up)
