The hipster war on you: How liberals use cool as a weapon
New York Post ^ | March 22, 2014 | Kyle Smith

Why are good things seen as bad, and why are bad things seen as good? Greg Gutfeld poses the question and supplies an answer in “Not Cool: The Hipster Elite and Their War On You” (Crown Forum).

Gutfeld paints a picture of a coolocracy in which the world is run by star-bellied Sneetches who tell us what’s hip and we obediently keep running in and out of the belly-star-making gizmo.

Icons of cool like Robert Redford, Mark Zuckerberg, Jesse James and Yoko Ono get shredded in the book, which is as breezy, enlightening and funny as Gutfeld’s two TV shows, “The Five” and “Red Eye.”

Can someone explain to me what’s so wonderful about Yoko Ono? Whatever did Lennon see in her? Humorless, talentless, ugly, selfish—what’s the appeal? And don’t bother telling me it was something she did in the bedroom. I’m sure Lennon could have had anything he wanted in that department.

Yoko Ono is the anti-cool. She is so un-cool she destroyed John Lennon’s coolness.

Like a black hole.

Chapman’s only mistake was not shooting Yoko when he had the chance.

In a perfect world, Yoko would have stepped in front of John.

When has Yoko ever been cool? It's more like she is worth a billion due to John Lennon's money so people suck up to her and flatter her

She was a lady similar to Alma Mahler. They both had an affinity for great men. It’s a type. Her first husband was a serious well-regarded composer, Toshi Ichiyanagi, but she soon became more enamored of a kind of celebrity that had more to do with newness for the sake of oddness. Thus her second husband. And thus her third, perhaps the uber-celebrity of that time John Lennon. She had a way of winning them over, probably more to do with their ego than sex.

Her father was a concert pianist and very wealthy businessman who invested John’s and her money shrewdly.

I can only assume John saw something in her that wasn't obvious to the rest of the world. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

But, yes, she's humorless, talentless, and ugly. But that's really her appeal. It's really the same attitude that raises common spray paint vandalism to the status of art, and rapping to the status of music. This is the attitude that any form of expression that doesn't come from the old American white male is somehow more valid and more worthwhile, and the hipster espouses such things simply because all the other hipsters do.

To the hipster, it doesn't matter that Yoko's singing sounds like fighting cats. What's important is that she's a nonwhite female from a nonwhite culture. They don't have to enjoy or understand it, they only need to understand that it's hip.

Hipsterism goes hand-in-hand with liberalism. They are inextricably intertwined.

Story I always heard was Yoko came from a long time banking family. IIRC J Lennon left her a hundred million or so..... There were millions in royalties coming in each year.

Plus she had excellent advisers to help her grow what she got. I cannot stand the evil bitch but I admit she is good with money.

She was too unfeminine, hairy and ugly to find a good marriage partner in Japan. She was smart to go looking in the USA and Europe via her art pursuits which were as inane as her alleged music

John Lennon started out tough but weakened his mind via LSD and other drugs. This is how Yoko got her hooks into him. Lennon tried to escape to California for ~18 months but came back and submitted to mommy (or mother), as he often called her. Yoko was seven years older.

...if you think back to high school, the cool people weren’t necessarily the smart people. In fact, there’s more often than not an inverse correlation.

Good point.

Drugs probably destroyed the sensory perception center of his brain. That's the only explanation.

"his aim was off by a few feet"

A few feet is the difference between getting 20-years-to-life or a medal for a meritorious act.
