When the manager of a Michigan gas station failed to show up for work on time, her third-shift employee did what any of us would do; he left an angry note on the door, locked up and went home.
Okay, most of us would never do it. But how awesome was it that he did?
The BP manager, who declined to be named, said she was running 30 minutes late because she slept through her alarm.
The tardy manager also said she was surprised that Joe left the note on the door instead of calling her before leaving the store.

Doesn’t matter—he should have gone up the chain of command. If the manager wasn’t answering his phone, call the manager’s manager instead.
I did not address the manager becuase this is an article trying to make a folk hero out of a guy who was so mad about being left to run the store an extra hour he aired his dirty laundry in a sign on the front door. Regardless of the managers failings this is a sign of a bad employee. Your assessment of the manager is likely correct but tell me, how many employees do each of you have and what would you do if one of them publicly posted a letter painting your company in a poor light?
“If the manager wasnt answering his phone, call the managers manager instead.”
Show do you know the manager said never to do that? I’ve known managers to try to get away with that crap. How do you know the employee was even privileged to have the next manager’s number? Most employees do not.
My old boss used to tell people “ you can say whatever you want on your last day “
For the record, it was someone else's laundry.
Did he work for the SS?
Nothing more fun then watching the late manager show up and find his/her boss standing there!

That would be EXACTLY the right thing to do, in my opinion!
RightOnTheBorder is right on the money with that post, everyone. I can’t understand all the folks on this thread making the employee out to be the good guy.
Written in broken English and without any real content.
If I owned this store, I would fire the manager, rehire him or her as help, and appoint Joe the manager.
I suspect Joe can get the message if he’s interested. But he’s probably better
off with a franchise operation than in a family owned station. JMO.
If I were the owner in this situation, my first thoughts would turn to the manager and I would make every effort to find out what was going on in my store. If it turns out that the manager’s OK, then I would sack the employee, but my instincts and experience point to the manager.
A lot depends on the dynamics of that particular business. It could be that the employee, Joe, only had the phone numbers for the gas station and maybe the manager’s cell phone. If I owned a business and had a manager to run the place I wouldn’t be sharing my phone number with every employee. Too much potential for getting dragged into minutiae that could and should be handled at the managerial level.
The manager claimed that she woke up half an hour late, yet the news story said something to the effect that she showed up an hour and a half after she was supposed to. So even if her story is true she still wasted an hour somewhere and that’s unacceptable.
Whoa, for a moment there, I caught a picture of Baraq Obama as the store manager.
Hey, please don’t ridicule your superiors. It might end badly for you.
Being late is inconsiderate. I don't care who you are or where you are going. If one is going to be late, one should at very least call.
