This is a comparison of a Formula 1 pit stop in the 1950s to a more current one. It's amazing to see how far the technology has progressed looking at them side by side.

Well, it is 64 years later and so one would expect some improvement.

Hah. Too easy. If it were me designing these races they’d have to have a six-year-old girl as a passenger who had to pee every 10 laps. Keep it real!

UMMM, That is Indy 500 then F1, Big difference. Still cool though.

They use “Tear Off’s” these days. Open wheel/cockpit cars it’s on the Drivers Visor. NASCAR it covers the whole winshield.

It seems to me that in Formula One all they did was to increase the number of people allowed on the pit crew.

The biggest motor racing changes in that period were probably not at F1 or "stock car" racing venues, but at Le Mans (due in part to the horrific crash there in '55). Ever see that video on YouTube? Chilling.

Shoot, if you look at a current Indy car pitstop, it still looks slow compared to F1!

The F1 stop was incredible, but... did they put any gas in the car? Sure didn’t look like it.

In the F1 stop he did not take on fuel, just a tire change.

Still quite astounding as to the team work.

What is remarkable about the Le Mans accident a that the race continued to completion after more than 80 spectators were killed.

They could only use four people in 1950, now they have an army of people in the pits, each person with just one thing to do - and they get to use power tools at that.

So probably not a fair comparison.

Yes, many times. F1 had some bad ones in the early years also. And a few in the latter when they used pressurized fuel rigs.

The NASCAR Boyz in the early years would just light up a smoke in the fire on Pit Road stand back and let it burn out on its own;)
