A mother her young children faced an agonizing choice on a recent visit to a safari park in England, when their car burst into flames in the middle of a lion habitat.
Helen Clements and her two young kids, visiting the Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, England, Friday, had to make a split-second decision whether to take the chance that the flames didn't reach them before help arrived, or trust themselves to the mercy of the lions outside.
"You're stuck and you can't control and you can't do anything about it," Clements said.
Other tourists in the safari park couldn't believe what they were seeing.

Sooo, why didn’t someone in one of the other cars “close by” pull up near them and let them in? The park rangers, I would expect them to be stupid, acted predictably......
I always thought fire kept the critters away?
It might have damaged the paint?
Actually, having been trained by the best ghouls in the world, media/journalists, they were ‘documenting’ the potentially horrible needless carnage because ‘people have a right to know.’ They cannot be expected to be part of the fray.
Of course someone, anyone in a car nearby could have done that. A real human being would have.
Three years ago we had a big fire on the ranch, one of my hands on the front line blew both left tires on his maintainer and was disabled. He calls me and I call the Forest Service who were overhead at the time with planes and choppers. One chopper had a fresh load and dumped it on the maintainer and surrounding area, the other followed me in and was dumping on my truck and the path ahead of me. They followed me all the way in and we got David in the truck and the other chopper after picking up another load followed me back out. My truck was so covered with retardant and mud from the choppers I had to drive with my head out the drivers side. Ever try to get mud and retardant out of your ear’s? I tell that story to say this. Some times you have to do what you have to do, you don’t have to stand out but you do have to stand up! Most people will stand up.
The maintainer was a total loss.
Quite a story. I hope insurance covered your loses. How did the fire start?
I do not like being near lions. Over at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they had lions roaming around behind plexiglass as people played slot machines and blackjack. I was not comfortable with that arrangement at all. I crossed the street and spent my gambling money at New York, New York.
So the other people filmed it on their phones and texted about it but no one went close enough to bring the family into their car?!! Ok.. am I the only one that would have done that?
I still needed a change of underwear after *that* little episode.
Fire started from high winds and hi-lines hitting together, we lost close to 16 square miles of ranch to that one. Nobody hurt, no cattle lost or tank battery’s lost just fence lines. To be honest those pastures needed a good burn just wasn’t the way we planned.
Did the guide use to have a partner? I know there is a joke in the story somewhere. Do lions like roasted meat?
That’s the dilemma when you don’t carry a Winchester in the trunk.
