BROOKSVILLE (FOX 13) -

The father of a 6-week old girl does not defend his wife who is accused of slamming their daughter to the ground, killing her.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrested April Weber Monday and charged her with child abuse and the first-degree murder of Aubrey Weber.

Weber frantically called her husband while he was working Sunday afternoon and said she dropped Aubrey while bouncing the infant on her knee.

Harry Weber immediately rushed home.

"I really couldn't make out what exactly happened. All I knew was she said something about bouncing and floor, and when she showed me the back of her head, I called 911, " Weber said.

The infant was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital where doctors identified skull fractures on the left and right side of her head, and bleeding within the skull.

Doctors told Harry Weber the child's injuries were not consistent with what his wife had initially said.

This is very sad...I do feel sorry for the mother and especially the deceased baby. New mom’s need a lot of family and friends around to help during the first few months. Just to give the new mom a break and get some sleep. Of course I don’t know what happened here, but I’m sure the guilt, shame, and remorse is eating her up, she has to be just sick to her stomach that it got to that point. Pray for her and the baby.

Agreed. Sleep deprivation coupled with a child who will not be comforted is an extreme trial - to which most parents can attest.

You think you are strong - mentally & physically? Spend a month taking care of a crying newborn and you find out what you’re made of - who you really are. It is a humbling experience...

I can understand the frustration and the lack of control in trying times....question is whether there are any other injuries from other times to suspect ongoing abuse, or was this a single deadly time?....

What an awful outcome for that poor child-and her father. If the child’s mother was having difficulty coping with the child’s disability and treatments-which seems like a normal reaction for a mother-why on earth didn’t tell the father about access to group therapy with other mothers who have disabled children? That support is available through parish/local churches, even in rural areas...

Pardon me-that should be “why on earth didn’t someone tell the rather about access, etc”...

In hind-site it’s obvious she should have asked for (more?) help. There should be no shame in declaring that you’re at the end of your rope.

I don’t mean to defend her actions. If she is guilty, she should be prosecuted. But I’m not calling for her head on a pike. It is simply another occasion to state “There, but for the grace of God...could have been me...”.

Having trouble feeling sorry for the murdering mother who first attempted to lie about what happened to save her own sorry skin.

How many millions of moms have been in this situation but did not kill their child?

Run around screaming? Sure. Tear your hair out? Sure. Slam the child’s head on the floor, twice? Sorry, I just don’t think there’s any excuse for that.
