A Knoxville photographer has captured a police officer on camera using what looks like excessive and unnecessary force on a college student. The sequence of photographs show the young man complying with Knox County deputies as they lead him to a police van at the University of Tennessee, before an officer uses two hands to choke the student until he is unconscious. The young man was arrested during a wild college party celebrating after a week of finals that spilled out onto the street on Saturday night.

Awe.....did the frat boy call the cop a meany name?
Of course these are a bunch of spoiled frat brats....so what? Doesn’t give the cop license to choke him. Even if the cop gets his feelings hurt.
But I’ll play along. Lets assume the guy spit on the cop, as you speculated, or resisted arrest, or whatever. Is that the first action the cop is to take on his continuum of force? Not the good old fashioned tripping him to the ground, pressing a knee into his back, maybe even pulling out the night sticks? Tasers are no longer in vogue? Pepper spray is out? Apparently the officer’s toolbox for handling frat brats is limited to choking them into submission!

KPD & KCSD were called after it got out of hand. I'm reading WBIR's article. I would question if the passing out was from the hold which could have been trying to hold his head up till cuffed or drinking.
UT has in the past couple of years have some Frat parties gone bad like a "excuse my French" Butt Chugging Party where a student almost died.
Generally when you see a cop doing harm they are keyed up. Look at the guy cuffing and the one to the side of him. It's a one sided picture and hard to tell.
This is extremely disturbing, as I suspect this officer is a psychopath. He has probably figured out this sleeper hold and wanted someone to try it out on.
On these grounds alone he should have a psychiatric ban on being an LEO. Just firing him isn’t enough, as police departments around the US should know not to hire him, as he is a dangerous, potentially homicidal risk.
Check WBIR.com but don't post article it's Gannet owned and on the FR link only list I think. If there was wrong doing you can bet knoxnews.com will have a field day with it.
The powers that be are a Knoxville DEM Mayor and IIRC a GOP County mayor. Knox County is there because the county runs the jail and it's out in the county off Washington Pike now across from the old Penal Farm.
Nah it's just typical local weekend little coverage news. I-75 north of Knoxville from Raccoon Valley to Lake City has been at a near stand still all afternoon and not a word on that either. Something up around the Clinch River bridge near Lake City I think.

Are you serious? You think the FAT CRIMINAL DEPUTY was simply trying to hold the student’s head up? The FAT CRIMINAL DEPUTY was not “keyed up”. Look at the series of pictures. Using great exertion (look at his face) FATSO strangled the student CALMLY, IN COLD BLOOD.

The chokee is a 23 year old Architecture student from Powell, Tn.
I am certain he is looking for a lawyer, as we speak.
I can only see the one picture posted in the thread due to being on dial up. I can see the students face and that does not have the look of someone being choked unconscious. Then I looked at the KCSD 24 arrest list and mug shot picture. I have my doubts. If you just got the living crap choked out of you would you be smiling?

It’s hard to tell, it’s a “one sided picture”.
Civil suit? Not sure it would come to that if it were a family member of mine. Retribution would be forthcoming sooner than that.
All the rationalizations aside, if the facts are as they appear to be, we are seeing very sick and sadistic behavior on the part of the LEO. Those posting excuses and justifications for this brutality need to be reminded of the slippery slope and what can be expected further down the line for all of us if this goes unchallenged and unpunished.
This sort of behavior cannot be permitted in a civilized nation. The long term ramifications are horrendous.

Contrary to what you saw, I saw a band of red around his neck.
With white between his upper neck and chin.
There is a red band at the base of his neck.
