No Speedos on the streets! Holidaymakers who leave Majorca beaches dressed in swimwear face fines

Holidaymakers taking a break to Majorca this summer are being warned they face fines of up to £500 if they wander from the beach still wearing their swimwear.

New island regulations will see penalties handed out for anything from riding a bicycle on the pavement to wearing a bikini, swimsuit or Speedos or swimming trunks in the street.

Aimed at both tourists and citizens, the laws are part of Palma City Council's 'Ordenanza Civica', otherwise known as the 'Good Citizen Plan'. cebook

I was there in ‘77...it was all you could do to keep from getting beaten by laughing at the head wear of the LaGuardia Civil.

Hahahaha...well, I wouldn’t laugh at those guys because they looked meaner than hell with their little submachine guns and those knee high boots. When I was there around ‘77, the First Class Petty Officer in charge of our shop said: “You don’t want to be caught pissing behind a dumpster by those guys!”

anyone 'devoid of superior parts of clothing' in roads not immediately adjacent to the beach will be fined

Does it mean that if someone wears a shirt bought in WalMart that person will get fined? Just kidding, I had to laugh at the translation, they must have used Bing!

I grew up in Spain, and those hats always meant help and order. Yes, they could be harsh, but they were always there when you needed them. I still remember when I was a pre-teen and started climbing the face of a rock, then looking down and freaking out... I don't know how long I clinged to the rock before I saw two guardias civiles passing by! One of them climbed all the way to where I was, helped me down, and they took me home. I used to hate the ETA terrorists because they mainly attacked guardias civiles or their headquarters.

I enjoyed your perspective but still cast my lot with the Basques.

I respect them. More than the Spanish in general, now, since they caved to the muslims.

Spain used to be my favorite European country...went there many times in the USN, took my wife to Mallorca on our honeymoon, and went back for our 10th, but...I just couldn’t reconcile their reaction to the bombing of their trains in Madrid.

They just caved.

Be that as it may...Spain in ‘77 was wonderful, especially out in the Majorca s. Breakfast in bed included for $5.00/day, all the calamari, wapatuli and prescription drugs (got a bad cold) you needed and could freely purchase.

I don’t blame you. I haven’t been back in 17 years. Spain has changed too much, for the worst. But I do miss the bread and chorizo, and remember the civiles with great afection.

I don't think the black socks and sandals help.

I was stationed in Spain from 68-72...Catalonia was then pretty unsettled....strong separatist movement..and the Civil War was only 25 years before, and Spanish hold grudges...I remember..once you got outside of the city..you’d see the GCs..no helmets..just the tr-corns...patrolling the roads..on the big Butalco bikes..always in pairs...with assault weapons strapped to the rear...scary dudes..
