JEREMY Clarkson, presenter of BBC motoring program Top Gear, on Thursday “begged forgiveness” for appearing to use a racist insult in a non-aired clip recorded for the globally successful show.

Clarkson, no stranger to controversy, explained that he had recited an old nursery rhyme that includes a racist term, but tried to mumble out the offending word.

In the meantime while all these white boys run for PC cover, Bennie Thompson’s namecalling goes unnoticed

I am having the devil’s own time trying to come up with a nursery rhyme that has a racist line in it.

Actually if you watch the video he says it sounded like the old version of Eenie Meanie Miney Moe. In fact it was a take that was never used because it sounded like it. Someone held onto the video to use now.

I’m going to guess it begins with “Eeeny, Meenie, Miny, Moe...”

Since when is “tiger” considered racist? Must be referring to Tiger Woods...

“Beggar” was how I learned it. Jeremy wouldn’t be in any trouble at all if he had ‘rapped’ the original line.

That was my thought as well. “Catch a tiger by the toe” must have taken on racial connotations after Mr. Woods became a celebrity. I wish they’d at least make an announcement when harmless prose becomes toxic. How is one to ever know???

I must have heard that rhyme hundreds if not thousands of times when I was a kid. I heard adults saying that word quite a bit not realizing how loaded it was. Even my mother who used to get upset when she heard racist words called brazil nuts n.....toes.

So does the mere recitation of the slur make a person a racist? I think actions speak louder than words. And a slip of the tongue does not make a person a racist. But Clarkson will have a very difficult time getting out of this one. Because in today's world, racism only goes one way...towards whites.

Maybe if he would have enunciated the offending word using the “a” ending instead of the “er” ending he wouldn’t be in so much trouble?

Jeremy, you may be okay in the UK. However, in the US, there is forgiveness and second, third, fourth chances for every sin or offense under the sun, up to and including murder, except perceived racism. One word and you are ostracized for life.

I am having the devil’s own time trying to come up with a nursery rhyme that has a racist line in it.

Anything that mentions black/watermelon/fried chicken (or maybe just chicken)/jungle/bunny.....

I took a quick peek and many wanted "Baa Baa Black Sheep" banned as being racist.

Let's face it, we're all raging, bigoted racists and we all commit hate crimes in our thoughts each and every day. In order to cleanse the planet of racism, all Whites need to be destroyed. Then the "spics", then the next smallest race, until the "chinks" own and rule the world.......I think it's really a Communist Chinese plot for 'peaceful" takeover.

Its a fake controversy anyway.

He’s not apologizing for saying the actual word. He’s apologizing for saying a word that sounded like it and that take wasn’t even used because it sounded like it.

Don’t you dare utter old nursery rhymes.

Feel free to recite modern day rap lyrics.

Apparently all you have to do is give the impression that you even know the rhyme with the “N” word in it, and that is enough to brand you as a racist.

I’ve listened to the clip several times and for the life of me I can’t hear any semblance to the dreaded N–Word. I fact I can’t make out any word during the portion of the rhyme that supposedly contained the offensive word. I think what Clarkson “should” have said was:

Eeeny, Meenie, Miny, Moe
Catch Piers Morgan by the toe
When he squeals, punch him in the face again

This guy breaks down the audio (WARNING – some NSFW, NSFC language by the YouTuber)
