Damon Tobias Exum was arrested on eight charges, including DUI and reckless driving.

A Georgia man is facing eight charges, including DUI and reckless driving, after he allegedly handed a police officer a beer instead of his driver's license during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Dunwoody officer Alvin Rodriguez reportedly pulled Damon Tobias Exum over after the 37-year-old struck the cop’s vehicle on I-285 westbound.

When Rodriguez approached Exum’s vehicle and asked for his driver’s license, the “heavily intoxicated” suspect handed him a beer, police spokesman Sgt. Fidel Espinoza told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Exum, who has been arrested for DUI in the past, was “totally unaware that he had collided with the officer’s patrol car,” Espinoza said.

Rodriguez was not injured during the crash.

“The driver was intoxicated and not making the best decisions,” Dunwoody officer Tim Fecht told the New York Daily News.

Major originality points in the "Hold muh beer" sweepstakes.

Nice understatement.

I grew up in a town that was so small that we kids would often drive around sipping soft drink bottles in paper bags. It was a good laugh when we got pulled over and produced bottles of 7 Up or Coke.

LOL, I was going to say “hold ma beer” and you beat me to it.

Sounds like something you should never do, if suspected of drunk driving, to hand the cop a beer...................

We did the exact opposite: Rolling Rock beer (green bottles/cans) wasn’t very popular, so we drove around with open containers of it, the cops just figured it was 7 Up. Don’t know how I made it to adulthood, unscathed, making decisions like that !

Im currently on a project just north of little 5 points. Boss and I left work and stopped at a bp in little 5...there was a dude sittin in his car in the lot...so smashed he was bobble heading...tryin to sip from a capped bottle of gin.
Right across the street sat an eatery sat an apd cruiser. We pulled across the street and pointed the drunk out to the officer...who then promptly pulled out and headed north on moreland...never checking out the drunk,

Easy mistake to make. Coulda happened to anybody. He was probably having trouble snuffing out his joint and holstering his revolver.
