Homeschoolers Need Not Apply: Will This Be the Face of Common Core?
Breitbart ^ | 05/07/2014 | Dr. Susan Berry

Posted on 05/07/2014 9:43:59 AM PDT by Rusty0604

An Indiana-based energy distribution group that operates in Ohio has informed the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) that the company will not hire homeschool graduates, a situation that may not only reflect discrimination, but also the possibility that, with a nationalized set of standards such as Common Core, homeschoolers could be shown the door when they apply for jobs in the future.

OH, the irony is strong with this one.

If someone is quality home schooled, they won’t be applying for a “JOB” anyway. They will be doing the hiring for their own business.

I don’t consider diversity to be a positive goal unless it’s what your business does for a profit.

It is a publicly owned company (NYSE-NI) that operates in SEVERAL states.

I don’t think this is entirely legal for them to do.

I’m with you on that. Unfortunately, the majority of what has become American “parents” are self-obsessed, prideful, and lazy to the core when it comes to being involved in their children’s education.

So much easier to turn on the idiot-box than actually help Sally with her algebra.

Every single Home Schooled kid I’ve come across has been extremely articulate, educated, and insightful. Public School brats use the words “um, uh, like” in every sentence when asked to describe something.

Boy this guy didn't think this one all the way through. No self respecting flunkie that has been brainwashed by the Common Core is going to work for an evil energy company. Dontcha know that they are the cause of the climate change that is going to destroy mother earth?

A story that plays into where we are now bears recitation. I’m working from memory here and some of the details may not be precisely correct but the take away message has stuck with me all these years.
In August, 1977, a small church in Louisville, Nebraska – Faith Baptist – was raided by armed agents of the state Department of Education for running a Christian school. The ostensible reason for the raid was that they were NOT adhering to the state “requirement” that ALL schools and teachers be “certified” by the state. A judge issued an order that the school be closed. They remained open and the raid ensued. The teachers and 17 students children were terrorized as they were held at gunpoint on the floor. The pastor, one Everett Sileven, was arrested and held in jail for some time.
Public pressure forced his release and he began a crusade the effects of which are still felt today in the Christian and home school communities.
Here’s the take away message about which I have the clearest memory: Pastor Sileven appeared on a TV debate program to defend his church school. Also there was an official of the Nebraska Department of Education.
At one point, either the moderator or Pastor Siliven turned to the school bureaucrat and asked the real reason why the state had such a problem with their small church school?
Without missing a beat, through a sneer anyone who has visited the DMV will recognize, the bureaucrat declared (and I’m paraphrasing):
“Because you are denying the state schools needed money. And because you are educating children outside the public school system, in the world we’re designing for the future, THEY WON’T FIT IN!”
Dwell on those last 4 words for a moment.
If you’re curious about just what that world they were designing might look like, LOOK AROUND.
You’re living in it!!

I don’t know, it is an energy distribution group, not a producer.

Unless they can build an interstate network of natural gas pipelines, I’m thinking probably not. You need federal state and local governments stamp of approval, and it appears that Nisource knows how to keep government at all levels happy. Towing the line on common core is just part of the plan.

Home-schoolers normally go on to college and grad school, don’t they? I haven’t seen any company where they even asked about where you studied before you went to college. They look at your undergraduate and graduate accomplishments.

Homeschoolers are uniquely qualified to be business owners themselves. Turnabout is fair play so they could show common core rubes the door when they come looking for work.

Yes - 74% of homeschoolers attend college vs. about 45% of those in public school population.

This job only required a high school degree.

The young man had been offered a position, and then it was rescinded because the company decided it had a blanket rule about high school diplomas.

He had certifications AND he had several college courses under his belt, for which he had earned A’s.
