The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

Got any good recipes for crow? It looks like a bunch of very large ones think our back yard is their feeding grounds, too.

and we’re having a Heat Wave here on the Lost Coast of California...
We are raising up some plump doves and squirrels but my wife would have a conniption fit if they showed up in the kitchen.
We only got to 73 today and was sunny and windy. A good day for the wind chimes to play their songs.
I'm stuck inside having to stay off my bad leg and keep it elevated. I'm tired of reading, ready to do something, anything.
You can always take up crochet or embroidery (not that there's anything wrong with it). Was it Rosy Grier who did knitting?
Winter lettuce is cold tolerant lettuce that I sometimes plant outdoors in the late fall, and cover with a row cover, and harvest during a nice day in the winter.
There are names like winter density, artic king, miners lettuce etc. Bountiful Gardens has a list of more of these.
That’s some serious depth covering a road. We have had rain for the last 2 days, and tempa are 30 to 40 degrees below normal. Where is that GLOBULL WARMING when you need it?
We are at 45 degrees now, and tomorrow night will be in the 30s.
Mother’s Day has always been the official no need to worry about frost anymore ever, but that record could be broken, if things continue like this. Probably going to have to start some new corn.
No I don’t have a home remedy for fleas. Just haven’t had much of a problem with it here.
We normally dont have flea trouble than to the once a month stuff, frontline, I think, but maybe she just rolls around and digs in the dirt/sand more than other ones. It’s them squirrels that are bringing flea here. I find online that unsweetened lemonade will rid fleas, but haven’t yet tried it.
It was Rosy Grier, but in my fractured memory chip, I thought it was crochet. My mom crocheted, but I didn’t learn it. I didn’t learn to cook from my mom, either, for which I am truly sorry. I have been trying to dupe her recipes since she passed. I have found a few in her books, but mostly what she taught me was Christian values and morality. I have her Bibles and can tell from the underlined passages that she had a great teacher.
Gee, It’s cold there. It was 73/51 here yesterday and last night, and windy/sunny.
The bridge under the water is like what I came across in Mo. one time; It dips down instead of rising, so when flooding comes along, it is under water. In Mo. they called it a “Low water crossing” which I had no idea of what that was till I hit it at speed. Ouch...LOL
Well, maybe some of your garden will be happier than it normally is?

On a thread yesterday, one person asked me about the gardening thread and another sent a Freepmail about it, so we will likely get two more people on here asking you to put them on the list.
“You might want to think about putting frost cloth over any peppers you have outside especially. It’s not going to freeze, but peppers resent temps below 50ish or so and will sull and delay production if they get too cool as seedlings.”
All peppers are past the seedling stage. It could have gotten into the high 40s last night, don’t know, but I doubt it got that low in the garden due to the high brick walls around the garden. It was sunny yesterday and the brick warms up and puts that warmth into the garden at night. At this time of year here, it’s strange to get lower than the 50s at night and even 50s is not common.
I know a guy who was out late on a Friday night that thought he could cross a low water bridge after an all day rain.
He was in a jeep, and got washed away, almost drowned.
This morning we had frost on the roofs of the houses. Plants all looked ok. We covered the tomatoes and some of the other plants last night.
Frost? Wow! This is late for ya’ll too, ain’t it?
We have been in the 70’s since the big storm system went through earlier this week. Current humidity, 16%! That’s very low for around here. It’s been breezy, too.
I was going to take some pictures when I was outside a few minutes ago, but no memory card in the camera, duh!
