A judge on Monday ordered an investigation into the whereabouts of Casey Kasem after an attorney for the ailing radio personality’s wife said the former “Top 40” host had been removed from the country.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy ordered a court investigator and adult protective services to find out where Kasem is being treated and report back to the court. Kasem, 82, suffers from advanced Parkinson’s disease, can no longer speak and has been in various medical facilities chosen by his wife, Jean Kasem.

Casey Kasem’s children have complained that they have been unable to see their father in accordance with an agreement with their stepmother. Daughter Kerri Kasem had sought a temporary conservatorship and was appointed her father’s temporary caretaker on Monday. Her attorney, Troy Martin, said the family believes the entertainer has been taken to an Indian reservation in Washington state. …

Kasem was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Lebanese Druze parents who emigrated from the British Mandate of Palestine to Lebanon. After arriving in the United States, they settled in Michigan, where they worked as grocers.[4] Kasem is a graduate of Northwestern High School in Detroit and Wayne State University.[5]

Radio[edit]
1950s–1960s[edit]
Kasem, whose professional radio career started in the mid-1950s in Flint, Michigan, was drafted into the US Army in 1952 and sent to Korea, where he was a DJ/announcer on the Armed Forces Radio Korea Network. He developed his rock-trivia persona from his work as a disc jockey in the early 1960s at KYA in San Francisco, California, and KEWB in Oakland, California. He also worked for several other stations across the country, including WJW (now WKNR) in Cleveland, Ohio; WBNY (now WWWS) in Buffalo, New York; and KRLA 1110 in Los Angeles, California (1963–69), before launching the national show American Top 40 on July 4, 1970.

“Presumably if the stepmother was in the right, she could go to court herself if she has a legitimate reason to bar the children from seeing their father.”

If the wife is the guardian, then she doesn’t need a legitimate reason. I am the caregiver for my wife who is an advanced Parkinson’s patient. If the daughter has conservator ship, the kids are covered to the extent of what’s in the will. The wife can’t spend “his” money.

“I once heard that Casey was a Sikh.”

I think he’s Lebanese, and a lefty. That said, I spent many hours listening to AT40 back in the Day.

What does this mean: “If the daughter has conservator ship, the kids are covered to the extent of what’s in the will.”? Supposedly the kids are not in the will. They were given trusts. It may be a medical conservatorship. Why is she hiding him? I just think it is sad.

One of the highlights of the early parts of my life was when my long distance dedication was read by Casey on the air April 6, 1983.

the entertainer has been taken to an Indian reservation in Washington state.

Ah, the old ‘hide ‘em on the Reservation trick’.

Are they speaking American Indian (Native American) or Punjab type Indian?

How cruel of Kasem to treat his children and wife(s) so meanly.

I am carrying on an old family tradition that GUARANTEES their will be ZERO fighting over my ‘estate’.

I am carrying the tradition on because “I love them”.....

They allow assisted suicide there.

So does Washington State.

No, the guardian is responsible for medical stuff and day to day decisions. Conservator-ship involves the financial part.

The issue may be that Parkinson’s usually have a firm grasp on reality and are mentally competent. She may not want the kids to pressure him into changing his will. Kids can be your worst enemy sometimes... That’s her prerogative if she’s his guardian and has POA for him.

Kids can also be a comfort to a dying parent. Not all kids from a prior marriage are greedy or manipulative! Maybe they just want to see their dad before he dies. Sometimes second spouses just would like to pretend the previous marriage and the children issued from it didn’t exist, for their OWN selfish reasons. Second marriages come with baggage.
