A 26-year-old French photojournalist who had spent months documenting deadly conflict in Central African Republic has been killed, the French presidency said Tuesday.

Camille Lepage, a freelance photographer whose work was published in major French and American newspapers, died in western Central African Republic not far from the border with Cameroon, authorities said.

"We left at 3:30 a.m. to avoid the Misca (African peacekeeping) checkpoints and it took us eight hours by motorbike as there is no proper roads to reach the village," she wrote in a photo caption that she tweeted

...

Lepage's body was found by French peacekeepers inside a vehicle driven by Christian militia fighters, the French statement said. In her last tweet a week ago, Lepage said she was embedding with Christian anti-Balaka fighters who were battling the remnants of a Muslim rebellion known as the Seleka.

Sad, cute little girl, life thrown away. Why these young white girls all aspire to the pilgrimage to Africa and work among the natives thing, ill never understand.
She should have been back in France, having a family about now.

Silly twit suffered from Schweitzer Syndrome. All such liberals lose, because “Africa wins again.”

For those unfamiliar with Africa, Google “Africa Wins Again.”

Sad. It sounds like she was documenting the struggle of Christians against Muslim oppressors. I’m sure Obama danced a jig at the news.

She is in my prayers. I would say the spirit of Joan of Arc is still alive in France. Godspeed and God bless Camille.

She was a brave young woman, doing an important job. Your condescension insults her memory. And your sexism insults every woman in the world who doesn't rush to be barefoot and pregnant - and, you might note, there are a quite a few of such women in the world to day who don't consider such a choice to be "wasting" themselves.

Just damn, man.

Wasted life. NO important work done at all. Just took photos of Africans killing each other in their tribal disputes.
Photographing it cannot possibly change that backwards, tribal, superstitious place.

And whatever small bit of good it might have done, pales in comparison to being murdered at age 26. Was her project worth giving up her entire life for? Please.
Breathless hero hyperbole aside, she and her life was wasted.

She could have had an amazing life. That work was not really very important. Bear in mind, her own people she decided to imbed with are the ones that killed her. She might as well have stuck her lens into an open sewer and told us it was unsanitary and disease filled. That’s how much “new” we got from her adventure. She exchanged her life to tell us they are basically animals in the CAR and Cameroon.

The real disrespect to women is creating a world where they are belittled for pursuing normal sane lives and building families. Society builds up this generation of women to believe that if they aren’t on a commando mission with the skinnies, as a double agent, photo journalist, working for an NGO to eradicate unbrushed teeth,, that they are boring.

And that provides us with occasional girls, slaughtered by the very people they have been misguided into believing they are helping. Its very sad,,, and a waste when thinking of the good she could have done for humanity had she lived a full life.

A ballet dancer in Paris, or a hiker in the Alps, actually does more good for humanity than photographing dirty backwards superstitious people killing each other.
The world has more than enough war porn.

Look hard at the photo in post 8. Its obvious you’ve never been a grunt. And I doubt you’ve had a daughter.
Anyone can look at that photo and see their look. No sane person would want a young idealistic girl to walk down that road with them.

They came back, and she didn’t. Sickening and harsh. Give your soaring funeral speeches. But young girls have no business being there, no matter how much we wish the world wasn’t that way.

I decided there's is something I need to say in response to your barrage. First, I will point out again that she was NOT a "young girl," she was a twenty-six year old woman. She was, in other words, an ADULT, and a professional photojournalist. Not acknowledging that is insulting her memory. Period.

And that photo? That look she caught in their eyes? Their physical tension, their barely restrained aggression? Their implied murderous threat? As well as technical details like the framing of the shot? That's the kind of photo that wins Pulitzer prizes. And while that's worthless to your finer sensibilities, it's the kind of photo she was willing to risk her life to get. And she wasn't alone among photojournalists in that desire, and in her willingness to take that risk. In fact, she just might win a posthumous Pulitzer for it. And no, I'm sure she wouldn't want to have died to get the shot. But yes, she would be very pleased if she won the Pulitzer for it, and if she wasn't killed she would have told you it was worth the risk. In fact, taking photos like that is what she travelled the world to do, on purpose, WITH the risk. And she LIKED it.

I don't know if you've noticed, but no one gets out of this life alive. And to some people, that means living as fully as they can, while they can. She did that. That's why I honor her courage, as well as her skill as an artist and as a professional. In contrast, you fantasize she could have been in frilly dresses and missed out on the prom. So who's delusional here? Who's respectful of life, and who's in denial?

And by the way, if you're going to insult me, choose an insult and stick with it. It can't take a grunt, AND a father of a daughter, AND "anyone," AND a sane person to "see their look." Pick one and stick with it.
