A video showing a teen catching a three-foot carp with his hands on a flooded street in northern Ohio is going viral Wednesday.
Cleveland TV station WKYC reports that 16-year-old Jake Sawyer caught a grass carp estimated to be 3 feet long and weighing 40 pounds.
"The neighbors they pointed out, they saw, like bubbles and stuff moving around over here, Sawyer told WKYC. Then eventually we saw the fish actually surface and we saw how big it was.
Luke Sawyer shot the video while his brother grabbed the carp, also known as a white amur, with his bare hands and carried it to a nearby pond.
The North Royalton neighborhood had flooded after heavy rains on Monday.
"I was wearing Crocs. It was the first thing I saw so I just grabbed my Crocs and ran in the water," Jake told WKYC. "Hillbilly fishing."
Watch the full video below (we recommend you advance the video to about the 2:35 mark).
Seize the carp!
Name him, ping him...
Carp, die!
As my high school motto said, “carpe diem”, seize the carp.
And this ain’t no fishy story my friend. It is actually part of Obama’s feed the poor program of delivering fresh fish right to their door.
Who says ObamaCARE doesn’t work?
Carpe’ Carp?
GD! Look at the teeth on that thing!
I used to free dive around boat docks, retrieving things folks dropped in the water or off of a bout. Many times in these East TN and Alabama lakes I would be bumped and nudged by huge carp who had grown used to being fed at the docks. One place in North Alabama fed them with a baby bottle, using crackers crumbled and the bottle filled with water and a nipple on the end. Those big ol’ carp would take things right out of your hand and come back for more. Had one on Smith Lake I named tip, for a piece of a fin missing. He got so common in my dives that I often wondered if I could have made a pet out of him. He was three or four feet long. Saw him on three successive years at that dock.
“We’re gonna need a bigger boat”
;’)
LOL!!!
He’s gonna have carpal tunnel syndrome if he holds that big fish any longer.
The video of him catching the carp is great. Nothing beats reality.
that is crazy
We call that a bait fish, in Texas..
Carpe Carpum. Bare hands no doubt. Not on a fly, but no bait dunkers here! Satisfactory!
Several years ago there was video of divers at the dam of Possuum Kingdom Lake, West of Mineral Wells and about 90 miles from Fort Worth TX. The dam is around 200’ high and they were diving near the base.
There were catfish there the size of Volkswagon Beetles, with mouths large enough to easily swallow a human.
