There is obviously a big difference between a politician and a leader. As we move toward the end of the primary season here in Georgia - with the final days of voting upon us - I can sympathize with any voter who feels frustrated trying to cut through all the nonsense and identify those rare candidates who actually are seeking office because they want to be authentic leaders.

Just the other day, I received a piece of mail at my house that was so filled with falsehoods, I’d be more inclined to believe North Korean claims of landing a man on the sun! (Or the satire site that claimed they claimed that.) Clearly, this is a candidate who is not intimiately connected to the truth, and will say anything to win.

That is not a characteristic of an effective leader. But what are those characteristics? I would humbly submit to you that my years of experience in business, in broadcasting and even as a two-time candidate for office have taught me a thing or two about how to recognize real leaders. Here are some of the most important things you want to be looking for:

I listen to Herman's radio show now and then. This column was the subject of today's show, which is basically a repetition of most of his shows.

His general mantra is elect conservatives. Today, the mantra was “elect conservative leaders.” Okay.

For a rocket scientist, mathematician, experienced CEO, he surprises me when he continually harps on elections.

Herman's logical brain knows elections alone cannot cure what ails our republic.

May be, but elections are the only tool available for a change of direction quickly.

Electing the right people is a start. It needs to be done. Then we do the other things that need to be done.

If our freedom and property depends on the outcome of an election every four years, do you really think we still have a constitutional republic?

Emphatically yes, if we elect the right candidates every 4 years.

That can happen only if we learn from democrats to remain united behind whoever are the nominees.

Otherwise democrats will remain majority in congress 90% of
the times as they have for 100 years. And democrats are never
the best solution to constitutional objectives.

No. When our freedoms and property depend on who occupies the White House, as they increasingly do, we have an arbitrary, despotic government.

And your solution to the problem is....

Keep fighting within the republican party, and clear the
path for democrats?

I proposed unity as solution. What exactly are you proposing?
No pint defining a problem if there is no accompanying solution proposed.

The solution is right under our noses, in Article V of the Constitution, a state convention to propose structural amendments.

What ails our republic is consolidation of power in Washington DC. It occurred when the states booted themselves from the senate in 1913.

My solution is to re-federalize the government, return vertical separation of powers.

Your solution sounds logical. However there is per-requisite to bring it into action....need lot more republicans elected in state legislatures.

Just look at the fighting going on in Georgia among state republicans right now. Until republicans unite, nothing will improve in our favor.

Democrats and Republican legislators from about thirty states will meet next month in a second Mount Vernon Assembly to hammer out the parliamentary rules to be observed when two-thirds of the states call for an amendment convention.

I hope it results in some good amendments. However I do not trust democrats and democrat (liberal) justices on SCOTUS to adhere to the constitution. For crying out loud those 4 liberals on SCOTUS are always unanimous in opposing conservative cases. And SCOTUS is the final authority on declaring any unconstitutional question.

Until republicans start winning White House and congressional majorities, and nominate conservative justices, it is just an exercise in futility.

Elections have consequences. Without unity, republicans are destined to be minority party for another 90% of the time in future. One more liberal justice will finish off all conservative cases coming before the SCOTUS.

State legislators, regardless of party, are well aware runaway and oppressive Washington DC. If a convention meets, I doubt it will bother with proposals subject to interpretation.

Structural amendments, such as repeal of the 17th, term limits, state power to repeal statutes and overturn Scotus decisions, cannot be ignored.
