With what looks like every team with a dance squad going to be sued I bet Goddell will get involved. How many teams will pony up vs. the Going Galt route and just getting rid of the squads?

just getting rid of the squads?

Football would not be the same. But these babes would work for no pay. They should turn the cheerleaders to volunteers.

Was it not at a Tampa game a few years ago that some “cheerleaders” from I think the Panthers got arrested for some extra curricular cheer leading activities in the rest room?? Would they qualify for over time or was that just considered a dinner break??

I grew up in the NY Metro area and the two football teams did not have cheerleaders until the J-E-T-S a few years ago. Cheerleaders is for college football not the pros with the exception of the Cowboys. Bears, Giants, and Packers do not have squads.

well, at an NFL game, where I sit, you can’t see or hear the cheerleaders anyway. In hihpgh school and college, in smaller stadiums, maybe they can actually get cheering sections going. I never understood why the NFL has them at all.

I thought they were just advertising the goods? I guess they’ll be working until they turn 60?

They usually show well on closeups on TV

Remember the old joke:

What are cheerleaders for?

To make ya’ root harder.

I believe the Vikings were the last to get rid of...

The Vi-Queens (1961-63) and the St. Louis Park High School Parkettes performed (1964-83).

That’s right- used High school cheerleaders- for FREE

To make ya’ root harder.

Growing up, the only job I wanted in my life was to be the guy with my hand on the butt of a USC cheerleader above my head

Sounds like the ones that don’t catch a player will use this as an alternate cash flow opportunity.

Demonstrating the further wisdom of the Steelers. No cheerleaders. Don’t need them. This is the pros, not college. Should we also have a band at halftime?

I haven’t seen a report in about 10 years but back then teams with cheer squads made a couple million more dollars a year than teams without. They’re a good revenue because they aren’t part of the franchise so their merch (swimsuit calendars) doesn’t contribute to the revenue pool. And the teams didn’t pay them much, if at all (one of the teams actually charged them for costumes). Because of the money I doubt anybody will get rid of the squads, they’re just not going to be as close to 100% profit as they were.

Nothing would make me happier than if they would dispense with these absurd Super Bowl halftime shows and just throw the Grambling and Southern bands out there to have at it.
