The U.S. Interior Department said Tuesday it doesnt want federal irrigation water being used to grow marijuana in Washington, Colorado or anywhere else.
But the practical effects of the policy remain unclear: The Bureau of Reclamation said only that it would refer any violations to the Justice Department, and it seems unlikely that the Justice Department would target irrigation districts for supplying the water when its not going after the people who are actually growing the pot. The question of whether federal water can be used to grow marijuana is the latest iteration of a messy conflict posed by the recent legalization of recreational marijuana in Washington and Colorado.

Cutting in on your turf, Uncle Sammy????
The Bureau is just plain ignorant about how the Colorado law works. The grow operations are highly regulated and are indoors where they can be secured. Some farmer using federal dam water can’t just start growing the stuff. Sheesh.
Get used to the fact that the people in the various bureaus are congenitally stupid to a point beyond redemption. Its the first qualification on their resumes.
Federal water? Is that like government cheese?
Seems to me the quick solution would be to put the Interior Dept out of business.
I don’t recall the Interior Dept or any thing like the Interior Dept being mentioned in the Constitution.
This, like the EPA, et al, is prolly one of those, “or to the states” situations.
It grows wild in the ditch banks do I see a whole new bureaucracy to pull weed.
IE another grab at claiming all water?
The Constitution defines what the executive branch or president does. So he has to hire people to these things and they are grouped depending on what they do. Interior Dept. Defense Dept. State Dept, and so forth.
Sometimes it gets re-organized, like in the oughties the Homeland Security Dept was created or like in the 1940s the Grazing Service and General Land Office were merged to create BLM.
