Millions of Americans would no longer get mail delivered to their door but would go to communal or curbside boxes instead, under a proposed law.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform debated Wednesday a bill to direct the U.S. Postal Service to convert 1.5 million addresses annually over the next decade to the less costly but less convenient delivery method.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but mail delivery is one of the things government does that *is* specifically outlined in the Constitution.
Yes, but the Postal Service was privatized.
The only things specified are the establishment of post offices and post roads, per Article 1 Section 8 Clause 7. Delivery to the doors of houses is not specified.
The post office is becoming an anachronism
I actually like my post office. Its the local gathering place where I chat with my neighbors. Its going to 2 hours per day next month which will be a real treat for people who happen to work during those 2 hours.
Nothing about the establishment of general mills?
Yes, because everyone has a computer or smartphone. Right?
Many millions of us already have this system, or worse, we have to go to the post office.
And the little boxes quickly fill up with the junk mail trash.
Yet no photo ID.
But did the Constitution specify that it would be delivered the last 200 yards?
Curbside boxes do have the advantage that you can put your outgoing mail into one, which you can’t do if you have a mail slot in your door.
Sigh. Post office is such a mess! But at least we get mail delivered— in some countries you have to go to the central post office and ask if you have mail or to mail something. And when you get mail it might have already been opened and your packages are stolen, broken, or things missing. If it comes to a curbside group that’s still better than not having delivery! And I am ok with delivery only Monday- Friday if it helps control costs.
Nobody in government really knows how to control costs. But yeah, there’s no need for Saturday delivery.
Just close the post office and have any delivery service in the area guarantee twice a month delivery to all locations in the areas in which they are licensed.
Pick ups would be on call.
So, change it.
The constitution says merely to establish post offices, not necessarily maintain and definitely not subsidize. The private sector is not excluded by the wording of the law.
I’m for closing it down and selling the buildings. Whatever law is required works for me. Give the employees 3 years to get a job or retire.
it be cheaper to convert the postal system (letters)
to the equivalent of Internet cafes
for sending and receiving
The Obamasmartphone? (An oxymoron, I know.)
Not everyone can or wants to visit internet cafés either.
