While current and former employees praise the “excellent opportunities” and work-life balance offered by working at the BBC, the corporation’s management structure is criticized by many, according to media trade magazine Press Gazette.

Staff criticized the layers of management and hierarchy at the BBC, saying a lot of people remain in the organization too long, making it difficult to get promoted. […]

Staff praised the corporation’s internal training opportunities, high-class facilities and the reputation of the BBC; but the importance of unions, poor pay and a lack of opportunities for progression were among those frequently highlighted as negatives. …

£3,656 million from Private licence fees. (me)
£1, 101 million from Commercial Business
£269 million from .Gov
£75 million from over seas income, royalties etc

Largely privately funded anyway.
Loose a load of the useless middle managers and it will be home and dry.

The BBC has done some great, great stuff in its history....but not recently.BBC News was,for decades, the gold standard for English language news reporting.Worldwide.BBC comedies of the 60's,70's and 70's are true classics.Drama...nature documentaries...outstanding.

But that's all in the past,IMO.Certainly when it comes to news coverage.

As a Brit I’d be curious to hear what you might have to say about my post #4.Of course,I’m a Yank so I’ve only been exposed to a small part of their work.Perhaps I’ve only seen the best...or the worst.

The standard of the Documentaries is improving again, they have got used to operating on less cash. They are also collaborating with other production companies to help offset the costs.
The New production concept is to produce less, but produce to a high standard.
Otherwise your post holds water. The News is a leftist bung hole.

Most of the Newer programs you are seeing are created by BBC Worldwide. A self funding enterprise. we see the stuff long after you're all sick of seeing it for the umpteenth time.

120 quid as opposed to the 200 to 400 for the satellite alternative......
Licence fee and no adverts ,or pay a small fortune and enjoy adverts every 10 minutes. Hmmmm.
I’m quite happy with 50 reasonable channels and 10 good ones, minus 940 channels of puerile dross and adverts.
Just used to it i suppose. :)

The day they decided to create a government corporation like the BBC was the day freedom of the press really died in the UK
