‘I bought my degree, now I want my job!’...

University students who complain until they get a better grade and view their professors as employees are on the fast track to becoming dissatisfied and disgruntled once they land a job, suggests new research that links academic entitlement with inflated expectations in the workplace.

Amy Peirone, a phD candidate in sociology who this week will present her research at the Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities conference in St. Catharines, Ont., surveyed more than 1,000 University of Windsor students, resulting in a research paper called “I Bought my Degree, Now I Want My Job!”

Ms. Peirone had the students answer a 94-item online survey about their own academic experiences, which asked them to agree or disagree with statements such as “It’s OK to make demands on a professor so he makes exceptions for me,” or “the tuition I pay entitles me to a passing grade.”

having taught college classes I’ve seen plenty of this attitude. Unfortunately the school will go along with the student, no matter how poor his performance, to keep the tuition dollars rolling in.

Unfortunately, quite commonplace for YEARS! I haven't taught College Courses in almost 30 years but, in my experience at two colleges, I had "Deans" demand that I grant selected students a passing grade! In all cases, I told them that the "Grade assigned was well earned!" They coul do whatever they felt THEY had to do!

A University should have a limit on educated idiots.

So it is YOUR fault the team lost its star player before the big game?

Hey, promises were made... over and over and over... go to college AND YOU WILL get a good job!

Yep, since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

This is the 21st century version of the 20th century meme of the under skilled dimwit, “Okay, I bought my union card. Now I want my job.” It didn’t work well then. It will work no better now.

They are not all like that. I hire some of these kids
part time to help me when I need it. They work great and
hard as long as you don’t put them around wetbacks. It’s
just something about citizens working side by side with
wetbacks. I tell them that is what your government thinks
about you. When a certain percentage of the population
is forced to compete in the work force with wetbacks and the government favors the wetbacks and the wetbacks know it, how
can you expect people to want to do those jobs. To some
people a collage degree doesn’t do much good and they would
be better of blue collar but, all the fields are flooded
with wetbacks so they have no choice. Why should we be
forced with an illegal permanent underclass that is forced
on us by our own government.

To round it off short, if these sniveling little wienies
went through a thorough apprenticeship in a trade, they
would be a lot better off and a lot better people.

Just the thing for a Memorial Day posting!!

These poor deluded halfwit wussified pukes demand what they really don’t deserve, while I could show them 58,000 plus names of young men who never got the chance to do what these pukes have done.

And these are going to be a returning GI’s supervisor???

“And just think if they had skipped the Ivy League and just attended trade school or apprenticed they would be making up to 6 figures as master electricians, plumbers, auto mechanics, etc.”

Other than the unions where are the jobs that have the
apprenticeship programs? Have you went out to a new home
construction site? It’s 80% wetbacks. I’m in it, that’s
what I do and where I work. Most of these contractors use
wetbacks because you cant compete if you don’t. Unions
suck because they have become pro-fascist regimes not
because of their capabilities in producing a superb work
force. And they’ve simply priced themselves out of the
market at a very bad time.
These kids today look at the trades today and know
they are competing with wetbacks there. They see no choice but
collage and they suck too.

Naah, these were Vets who spent their “College Years” at the local bar rather than in class...

A limited few but, they got their VA stipends to drink rather than educate themselves! Hell, they probably got their degree anyway (a black mark on those who actually earned theirs!!!)

In some areas, yes, but not in many. Jose Wetback cannot certify as a master electrician. Juan Wetback cannot install unless he is at least an apprentice or journeyman.

All they need is a master electrician and maybe a
licensed journeyman or two, to run the job but apprentices,
not really. They use wetbacks. I’ve seen them throw down
a full wetback crew of 6 and wire a house a day. The
master or journeyman will walk the job to see if its
right and call for inspection. Plumbers too. Carpenters
masons, sheet-rockers/finishers, Painters, flooring you
name it, all wetback. Every now and then you may get
a contractor who is legal but most of the time they are
a family. That’s right here in Texas, one of the very
few states that are producing any wealth at all.
