Why I finally let my son buy a dress: Father's moving story......

FULL TITLE: Why I finally let my son buy a dress: Father's moving story about coming to terms with his five-year-old's true identity

father has opened up about how he came to terms with his young son's love of girls' clothes and toys.

Yuvi Zalkow, a writer based in Portland, Oregon, writes in an essay published on Medium.com that when his son first started exhibiting feminine qualities, his instinct was to fight against it, attempting to steer him towards superhero action figures instead of dolls, dresses and nail polish.

But ultimately he came to realize that the most important thing was the boy's happiness. 'Who the hell was I to tell him another way?' he writes. 'What is blamable here? This is being alive.'

His son was four years old the day that Mr Zalkow, carrying him home from daycare, worked up the courage to take him dress-shopping after he had expressed his interest in girls' clothes for months.

At the Goodwill store, 'he pulled me to the dress aisle like he had been shopping there a thousand times before,' writes the author.

'He picked two pink dresses with flowers on them, one skimpy dress that seemed inappropriate even for a girl, and a white one that seemed only fit for a wedding. "Dada," he said as he handed the white one to me. "I love this one the most."'

As I posted almost exactly two years ago (is there some liberal with a checklist “Annually, late in May, publish another article supporting transgender disorder as normal in very young boys”):

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2886557/replies?c=3

I’m not willing to stipulate, not even for the sake of argument, that the proper treatment for a mental illness is to reinforce the delusion. I had a son who decided at a young age that he was a puppy. That’s a fun game for a few hours, one that I’m sure many parents have dealt with, but it lasted more than a day. Rather than getting him a collar and a doggy dish and being completely supportive of a permanent identity change, perhaps even demanding that others call my son “Spot”, I got the other kids ice cream. “Puppies don’t eat ice cream, you know.” It only took a little over an hour of things puppies don’t do before we heard the last doggie whimper and my son decided he’d rather be a boy.

I would not amputate the leg of a child with “body image identity disorder” (a real disorder in which people want a body part removed). Any decent person and even many democrats would recognize amputation in that context as child abuse and medical malpractice. Why do the genitals get special politically correct treatment when it comes to this mental illness? As an adult, I recognize the difference between an adult and a child, and I would not permit someone under 18 to make irreversible decisions or even long-term decisions of this nature about their own lives. If there are psychologists, psychiatrists, and surgeons sick enough to mutilate adults with this mental illness, or to support that mutilation, I can’t stop them. I will not, however, support the abuse of mentally ill children in the name of political correctness.

My little boys were also drawn to blingy princess dresses. But I realized what they loved was the sparkle, not the dress. I got them dress-up clothes like pirates, etc (with lots of sparkle!). Result: Happy boys! I wish more parents realized that most kids are just attracted by glitz.

Child abuse by a mind-mangled LIB idiot. Poor kid...looks for guidance from a LIB. Bad judgement at an early age.

Never fooled with differentials but remember one bit of advice from HS auto mechanics class. It was that lipstick was very helpful in doing some of the alignments and teeth contact testing.

Over and over for years my daughter did not want to hold my hand in parking lots so eventually I gave and let her just run around and...
Are you Effing kidding me? This blithering idiot would be better off with the millstone because eternity is not going to be pleasant.

I’m A Boy - The Who
(Pete Townshend)

One girl was called Jean Marie
Another little girl was called Felicity
Another little girl was Sally Joy
The other was me, and I’m a boy

My name is Bill and I’m a headcase
They practice making up on my face
Yeah, I feel lucky if I get trousers to wear
Spend ages taking hairpins from my hair

Chorus 1
I’m a boy, I’m a boy
But my ma won’t admit it
I’m a boy, I’m a boy
But if I say I am I get it

Put your frock on Jean Marie
Plait your hair Felicity
Paint your nails, little Sally Joy
Put this wig on, little boy

Chorus 1

I wanna play cricket on the green
Ride my bike across the stream
Cut myself and see my blood
I wanna come home all covered in mud

Chorus 2
I’m a boy, I’m a boy
But my ma won’t admit it
I’m a boy, I’m a boy, I’m a boy
I’m a boy, I’m a boy, I’m a boy, I’m a boy
I’m a boy, I’m a boy, I’m__ a__ boy__

Mother, wife...sex centered...creates an inordinate need and a female based spirit within.

The child has a mother, but she doesn’t seem to be terribly involved.

he came to realize that the most important thing was the boy's happiness.

How about the boy's sanity? Or his soul? Do those enter the equation anywhere?

It doesn’t look like ol’ Yuvi is going to be taking the kid to very many rodeos or monster truck rallies himself. If yer kid’s a fruitcake at 5, son, maybe the problem is you.
