The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
There are still 2 or 3 good diseases waiting to attack my taters...
It’s been over 6 weeks since I planted, and today was the first time they could even have the trench filled, never mind any hilling.
Had to be careful not to cover the replacements because they have stems, but leaves aren’t fully open on them yet; but had to do something to at least make it look like they’re growing.
Radishes and chard getting first true leaves. Toy Choi, dill, and a ton of volunteer cilantro are well up.
Onion seed & leek seed didnt make it; but the transplants and sets are doing well, as are the shallots and garlic.
Carrots are sprouting under their light mulch
Had volunteer leaf lettuce in tonights salad.
Too wet to put the corn & beans in yet. Never pre-started corn, though I regularly transplant thinnings...or do you mean your corn is permanently grown in containers?”

Some of our seeds didn’t make it, either. I don’t know what went wrong. The only edible volunteers that we have in our garden are chives, mint and various weeds.
This corn is designed to be grown in containers.

Marcella discovered it. I’ve never previously grown corn, nor did I ever think that I would, but this seemed like a fun change of pace.

LOLOL!
I have tomatos that flower but not produce fruit. Didn’t you advise someone to use Epson salt and something else for this condition?
All our maters in the ground have lost their fruit since the squirrels have developed a taste for green tomatos while we were gone.

Looks ok to me.
My email is coming in but not going out so my friend in Bandera is not getting email from me and neither is anyone else. This is a post to say I’m fine and Prissy, the Yorkie, is fine.

And your Chauffeur? Is he okay, too, or have you and Prissy gone all Thelma and Louise, and are drivng an RV towards a cliff in Crater of Diamonds State Park or something?

Prissy and geologist love each other, chase one another round this rather large house, and they just tolerate me. I have met his daughter and her husband and they are artsy people and very nice. Tonight is a Bible study by the Priest on the book of Jonah.
Tomorrow is another trip to a casino as we have been one time now. It is the second largest casino in the world. I had no idea it was there in Oklahoma just over the Texas border past the Red River.
This area of Texas is growing fast with new highway construction here everywhere. Houses are selling for high dollars and it’s a high middle class area plus some.
Those look pretty nice, especially since that thing was no where close to mature.
I was shocked at how dry and compacted the soil was. I watered the other 2 to see if that will help.
Tomato blossoms will not set fruit if the air temperature is too high. Somewhere around ninety-five degrees.
Yuck. I just looked on one site that said tomato will not fruit if the temperature is above eighty-five degrees.
Hello R/D . . . your tomatoes are not being pollinated, you need to shake the snot out of them. That method always worked for my Father-in-Law . . . Smile!
Nice!
Thanks.
It has been in the 90’s here. We are having a bad year for tomatos. It was cold for a month longer this year, so we were late planting. 90+ temps come early here also. Every year it is a gamble to plant early enough to get tomatos before the temps get too high. Since this year has been a bust, I am glad I didn’t plant a lot of stuff this time.
On the other hand, I am having a banner year with peppers. I have many very large banana peppers and jalapenos, cayenne, chiltepins, and my ghost peppers are fruiting a bit early, it seems, this year.
hi H&G
I want tomatos, not snot! :)
