A 43-year-old Griffin police officer and father of seven was shot and killed outside of a Waffle House early this morning while working an off-duty security job in full uniform, authorities said.
Three suspects are in custody after the shooting death of Officer Kevin Jordan, an ex-Marine who had been with the Griffin Police Department for four years and often worked security at the restaurant on weekend nights, police spokesman Mike Richardson said.
The altercation began when two men and a woman who allegedly caused a disturbance at a Waffle House on U.S. 19 were asked to leave the restaurant around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Richardson said. A fight broke out after Jordan got them outside and tried to handcuff 28-year-old Chantell Mixon, he said.
Jordan was on the ground trying to restrain Mixon when another man shot him at least three times in the back, and one of the bullets cut through Jordans bulletproof vest, Richardson said. Police identified the suspected gunman as 30-year-old Michael D. Bowman.
Jordans brother, Raymond Jordan, was in the parking lot when the gunfire erupted and shot Bowman, Richardson said. The brother is a civilian who had a permit to carry a gun and was at the restaurant to visit Jordan, police said.

RIP Officer Gordon and sympathies and condolences to his family, friends and co-workers...
Just sick, shooting the man in the back...may they get all that they deserve.
I say FU to all who slander the Amish!
Unlike some jackboot lickers, where the police are given all benefit of the doubt, there are those on FR who can discern a thug with a badge and uniform vs. an actual PEACE OFFICER.
Thank you. That is a much better link, with pictures of the drunken perps, the LEO, and video of his brother.
I have the same worry. The sheer nihilism of new generations and their sense of stupid humor has me beffudled.
I think well mannered people are trustworthy hard workers. I see none of that around me.
Condolences to the officer’s family.
May all parties involved turn to Christ,
I don’t believe you.
