Detailed Deconstruction of the “Face” and Pyramids on Mars Claims

Intrigued by the thought of alien artifacts on Mars, with structures like a Martian-built statue of a giant face surrounded by pyramids or even cities? Better check the math on that. Better yet, Stuart Robbins has already checked that math and BOOM! it doesn’t check out.

So called “Mars anomalists” like Richard Hoagland have already been debunked mightily by folks like Phil Plait, but Robbins — who hosts the “Exposing Pseudo Astronomy” podcast — takes it to a whole new level. He’s just put out a video version of his podcast about claims about the Cydonia region on Mars, some of the math behind it, an exploration of the “null hypothesis” (what the results would be if it were purely random), and draws conclusions based on the latest orbital imagery of Mars.

“Hey! Space exploration is still awesome and cool, and you really don’t NEED the pseudoscience to make it amazing and rewarding.”

I agree and the charlatans who see animals, buildings, vehicles, etc ad nothing but stupidity.

If NASA were to hide evidence of life on mars or anywhere else the most astounding thing would be that they were the first federal agency in the history of the nation to deliberately prevent a massive funding increase.

There’s a part of the brain dedicated to seeing faces in otherwise shapeless objects, such as clouds. Most of the time it’s useful. On other random occasions, it’s just crazy stupid.

Good flick — but not seeing the connection here.

What am I missing?

I usually agree with guys about 99.9 percent of the time. But the cold hard reality is that we are all a creatures of our creator. I feel pretty confident in saying that our creator is not from this planet. Agreed? Therefore he would not be considered a terrestrial being of this planet. Agreed? So do the math. Otherwise you only have one other choice... No creator, no god, only random atomic elements that magically bumped into each other.

The Face On Mars Trail Map

The Face on Mars Trail Map
by Jim Garvin
Chief Scientist for NASA's Mars Exploration Program

Hike length is approximately 5.5 km or 3.6 miles one way, with a total elevation gain of nearly a thousand feet. Rating.... easy at start and midsection, with some very steep sections. Take plenty of water and oxygen.

NOTES: Starting to the SOUTH, away from the Face (hereafter FOM), the hike begins with a walk to the scree slopes at the south base of the feature, and then moves to the right (east) around the base of the FOM, and then to the NNW up to a breach in the feature about midway through the eastern middle. At this point there is a passage up the east flank of the feature, and the hike takes this route, passing between the two ridge-like prominences that outlie the eastern "battlements" of the FOM... then the hike traverses a smoother patch before it turns and skirts the summit region before finding a circuitous path to the upper reaches of the FOM (where there is a flat, bright circular patch about 100 m in diameter).
