School time for 4th-graders is usually packed with question-and-answer sessions, but a teacher in New York City has been fired for taking her questions a little too far.
Cassendre Fiering, a 45-year-old substitute instructor at Public School 189 in Bronx, New York, was canned by the Department of Education in December for actually seeking dating advice from her young students.
Investigators say the woman, who is also a part-time actress, asked her 9-year-old pupils to help her choose between two men she was dating.
She reportedly had the students engage in role-play conversations with her about how she should talk to the gents, both of whom are in their thirties.
There were only five students in the class, and they recommended Fiering to break up with the younger of the two boyfriends because he had not returned her phone calls.
DNAinfo New York obtained a report by investigators for the office of the Special Commissioner of Investigation for New York City Schools. They started the probe when students told school officials they counseled Fiering about her love life.
The report said Fiering acted out scenarios in which the kids were her and she was the boyfriends. She complained the younger suitor, a Rhode Island mechanic, didnt return her phone messages.
The teacher is said to have called the students her munchkins, and they asked her to toilet paper the mechanics home.
According to DNAinfo, the report says Fiering hugged one student, tapped another on his shoulder and touched the thighs of two other students.
Fiering denied inappropriately touching any student, but she couldnt remember if she had hugged one of them.
She admitted to speaking to the youngsters about her relationships, but indicated the talk was harmless and done in fun.

Are you smarter than a 4th-grader?
DANG!
If she had talked to them about oral sex, that would have been just fine.
Great technique for a Sub to be able to engage the class. If you have ever been a sub, you’d be sympathetic.
Mainstreaming psychopaths has not turn out well, has it?
Ping.
She”s FOURTY FIVE and talking to 9 year old’s about her dating life??
Two words. Home school.
*facepalm*
What the heck is wrong with people with these days??
I am not sympathetic. Why would you think I or any other substitute would be?
No internal filter telling them to refrain from doing something stupid.
I thought it took years to fire perv teachers in NYC, I guess part time substitutes don’t get such protections?
I don’t see what has been described as an issue. It’s not bad to role play making healthy decisions on relationships, and I am sure I’ve seen teachers give a quick hug to elementary school kids before.
I wuz a short term (one day at a time) sub a few times b4 I got a job using my major (STEM). I also had a few subs as a student. All were a wild thyme.
She is only busted for not indoctrinating the kids.
No, it’s not bad to role play making healthy decisions on relationships. But you should talk to other adults about such things, not 4th graders.
You don’t seem to understand the possible ramifications of this. It is an issue.
Not to mention wasting taxpayer money and the student’s time.
” the report says Fiering hugged one student, tapped another on his shoulder and touched the thighs of two other students. “
tapping a student on the shoulder is bad? Maybe touching the thigh but then again what is the context? Say did she touch the other thigh of a student who’s leg was blocking the isle and say “please move your leg”. Don’t know what to say about hugging but I figure with the schools so messed up these days best safe not to.
Silly, silly, silly. T.P. the mechanic’s home... about how little kids think.
