New U.S. series films women giving BIRTH in the wild with no help from doctors
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 5, 2014 | Joshua Gardner

A new reality show announced by Lifetime on Wednesday will follow young parents who forego not only hospitals during the birthing process, but also any shelter at all. Born in the Wild will portray the men and women who decide that giving birth surrounded by only the beauty and serenity of nature and away from any doctors or modern interventions is the way to go. Inspired by the huge popularity of a YouTube video that shows a woman giving birth in a tropical creek, some critics say such a show could kick off a dangerous trend that will endanger mothers and their babies alike.

These freaks need to read their history books. Birth was a dangerous affair before modern medicine.

I’m waiting for the reality show, “Pooping in the Wild”. Heard they use pine cones for toilet paper.

My baby was born blue with the cord wrapped around her neck. If I hadn’t been at the the hospital with the best neonatal unit in the region, she would have died. As it was, the obstetrician pushed a button and a whole team of professionals swarmed in, got her and started working on getting her breathing, while the obstetrician could attend to sewing up the huge slice in me made to get her out quick. We are both alive and well today.

Birth is nothing to play with

On the one hand, 100+ years ago women did this all the time. On the other hand, 100+ years ago a lot more women and children died in child birth.

Would you say your experience is typical?

Amazing how some conservatives are all for freedom until somebody decides to actually exercise some.

Sheesh I hope not but my point is this: you never know, no guarantees the baby will pop out easily and not need immediate assistance

These women can do what they want but don’t come crying if there are negative consequences.

It’s almost as if women’s bodies were designed to do this without assistance...

But it's a child-birth procedure with great economics.

Expect Obamacare providers to make it mandatory.

Not when indulging your whims and fantasies endangers a baby who has no choice in the matter.

Sounds like you have a religious faith in government health care.

I don't read anyone wanting to force them to give birth in a hospital, just advising them to do so because of potential dangers involved in birth.

My Dad was delivered by a midwife. The nearest hospital was 14 miles away and was swamped by the 1918 flu epidemic.

My grandsons were also delivered by midwives, but the birthing facility was attached to a hospital and doctors could get there quickly if necessary. Big difference from the type of risky behavior described here.

Next thing will be another reality show where someone decides to commit suicide. When will

Freedom is not freedom from criticism. These people are free to do as they wish (and to profit from a TV show about it). Others are free to criticize. That’s how freedom is supposed to work.

Criticize away. It’s what the chattering class excels at.

I have faith in the hundreds of years of medical advances that came before government healthcare. You know, complicated stuff like microbe control.

I used to have faith in a mother having enough of a brain to get herself and her helpless child someplace safer than an amoeba filled creek bottom to give birth. These days, I guess that’s too much to ask.

Even thousands of years ago, people had enough sense to get laboring women out of the open and to shelter. Mary didn’t give birth out in an open field you know.
