Some bits of wisdom.

Some bits of wisdom!

And a note to my friends and compatriots:

I often hear people say that although they had lived their lives, and were fairly satisfied, they wouldn't want to live it over again. I disagree. I would like to do it all over again, but with more wisdom and a better sense of purpose. I wouldn't change very much, but I would not waste so much precious time, and I would do everything a lot better.

And now an admonition: Always remember; when the issue is great, when the future of society depends on you, when it is a matter of ideals and principles and morality, and when you know you are right, do not quit. Many a battle in history was won when it had appeared that all was lost.

America is now at the crossroads. Your country, your children, your grandchildren, and civilization itself need you to stand tall for righteousness and tradition. Be strong and resolute. You have nothing to fear. The enemy of God and man cannot kill your immortal soul.

Pray and be intrepid!

Good. That was my secondary reason for posting it - to share with others.

Very good advice. Just one nit-picky point if I may...

“America is now at the crossroads.”

Crossroads? Sorry, but we took a hard left at the Crossroads some 40 years ago. We’ve been speeding down a one way street of fraud, failure, defeat and irreversible and impending collapse for some time now.

Sorry. We’re long past the crossroads.
The only thing we can do is a 180 turn, but that ain’t likely.

You will be tested. God gives adaptive tests. He will not give you anything you can’t handle. And the reward will be far beyond anything you previously could have imagined!

Once was enough and I want to be able to say “I have run the race...” and I definitely see no reason to start over. What if you ended up on a different path and your life was worse than where you are today?...

Anyone here has overcome many battles and we are on a Conservative website on the right side of history, and if you are a Christian?...You made it through to Victory! The rest was just collateral damage...and not important in the long run in eternity.

It is not likely if we do nothing.

If we do something, it could happen.

It may not, but as my old Boss used to say: “Can’t never could!”

You may well be correct.

But, we have to try.

We can’t quit now!

It’s a time for each of us to continue efforts at shrinking personal spending and becoming more self-reliant; it’s a time to find out who really has what it takes and who doesn’t. Find a good neighbor, and give that person a hand. Share methods of saving and getting things done without “professional” services.

You are most welcome. The following might be rather specific relative to the topic, but maybe the material will be of some use to some.

A few years ago, I told a retired Navy officer of high rank, that my kids were learning and doing home experiments in several technologies before pursuing engineering fields (long road: construction, electronics, transducers, thermal, etc.). He advised that we should start with old basics like the ground under our feet (physical stuff), the skies (navigation, simple astronomy, historical uses,...), the weather, simpler materials and so forth.

By the way, the conversation started with discussion of Iran's buildup. He said that he feared that our nation no longer had the will to fight. And yes, we see the economic situation.

We've taken the great man's advice since then. It took us into extended low tech. studies of thermal interactions and sharing info with others. We're at over 9,000 ft. elev. with winter temps in the minus thirties (Fahrenheit) and winter wind gusts over 100 mph spraying ice. Here are some of the simple but effective results of collaborative efforts between many (websites of others).

$2K Solar Space + Water Heating -- One Simple DIY System

(also a huge number of tutorials for other projects at the site)
We've done some modifications of our own. We are also doing some preparatory projects for small agriculture (low cost garden protection, soil testing and development, yaks, etc.) and developing some small manufacturing ideas (useful tools and simple appliances).

Those heating systems above aren't viable for permits in many jurisdictions because of regulations (IMC, locals, etc., engineering required) that favor established manufacturers. But with some forethought, stealth is easily doable with those. There's no sense in people freezing to death only to suit corruption (see propane and electricity prices just ahead).

With the second phase of the EPA rule in about five years (first phase starting next year), most of the woodstoves currently on EPA's certified stove list will be unavailable or modified and outrageously more expensive. Wood boilers (hydronic heaters) will also be affected.
