Michelle Obama on Thursday turned her annual garden harvest into a showcase for healthier school lunch standards and pledged to fight until the bitter end to keep them in place.
The House is soon to vote on a bill that would allow some schools to opt out of new federal requirements that school lunches include more whole grains, fruits and vegetables. The White House has threatened to veto the measure.

These aren’t YOUR kids b****.
I still remember the excellent grade school lunches we had (’58-’64) cooked by two little old ladies from scratch. Oven fried chicken, mashed spuds, green beans, biscuits, spaghetti, mandatory fruit cocktail, the works. A fast eater could get seconds if there was any chow left. Hot lunch was 25 cents, carton of whole milk, 3 cents. Milk did go up to a nickel by the sixth grade, I recall.
You’re way ahead of this Texas garden. There are a few small green tomatoes but none close to harvesting. Yes, greens are all that’s ready here. hussein must have signed an EO for climate change in her garden.
I remember our wonder lunch ladies, too. You couldn’t concentrate in class due to yeast roll smells floating through the halls, yum. Those were the days of government peanut butter. There was some form of pb on every tray every day and no one died.
Fight for French bread pizza on Friday or GTFO, bi-atch!
I hope she chokes on a carrot.
She should eat her lunchroom diet 9 months of the school year at lunch and see how she feels about it then. She wouldn’t last 4 weeks.
We have a lot of mockingbirds, too. They remind me of my sons! We didn’t try to grow strawberries.
We got a burst of hot weather that got the tomatoes going.
She needs to get down to the Texas border and bring some salads with her. I’m sure those kids will be very happy.
....and Russian planes are off the California coast.
Mooch is fighting for preparing food that students won’t eat, or if they do it is not nearly enough. Got it.
Buy bird netting. It’s available at Home Depot and Lowe’s. I’ve been using it for three years. Just froze 8 quart bags of tomatoes yesterday. Fixin’ to freeze about 8 more.
My Texas garden is about finished. The green beans put out one picking and died. I’m fixin’ to pick some purple hull peas. I’m getting a few cucumbers and some okra. The tomatoes are doing good. I almost lost them but some powdered milk buried next to the plants gave them a shot of calcium and now I’m in tomato Heaven!
If we get any tomatoes at all, we have enough to share with the birds.
every school in the country should have to follow the menu of Sidwell Friends.
