No dog meat sold at Fujairah restaurant: officials Municipality vows to prosecute those behind the social network rumours

Fujairah authorities have denied rumours floated on social networks that a local restaurant sold dog meat meals to consumers and other restaurants and vowed to prosecute those who are behind the report.

Fujairah municipality Director Mohammed Al Afkham said the restaurant shown in the report is located in another country and that it is intended to hurt the UAE’s image.

Quoted by local newspapers, he said the UAE carries out strict health standards when it comes to food imports and that all restaurants are regularly inspected to ensure they abide by hygienic and safety regulations.

“The report and pictures published on social networks about a restaurant selling dog meat meals are totally baseless and untrue…they are meant to harm the image of Fujairah and the UAE,” he said.

“The restaurant shown in the report is not in Fujairah or any other UAE emirate as it is based in another country…we are coordinating with the competent authorities to identify those behind this offending report to take legal measures against them…we appeal for the public not to heed such rumours.”

You know your business is in trouble when you have to issue a formal denial of something like this. I still think it’s just a matter of time that restaurants start serving horsemeat in the states, and stores begin to sell it. It would likely start at small boutique shops first, maybe online, so to avoid any angry picketers in front of the business. I love horses as much as anyone else, but there are 1000’s of wild horses out there with not enough food for them to really thrive. I think we have resumed exporting the carcasses to Mexico and France for consumption.

There’s a joke in there somewhere about a hot dog with bichon mustard, but I am not going to make it...

They don’t kill them here anymore.

They’re being sent to much less humane slaughterhouses in Mexico.

There’s also the extra stress of the longer trip to die.

Do-gooders screwed them over even worse.
